(Sir Thomas Browne)</p><p>Sometimes a "splash" of color is effective in an image particularly if it's placed off of dead center. A blue sky in the same frame creates a nice harmony.</p><p>Orange and blue are spectral opposites and when seen together by the human eye, the retina and the brain intensify the combination. That's a good thing for the outdoor photographer to know.</p><p>The fallen tree creates a diagonal "leading line" that draws the viewer's eye into the composition; the line of tree trunks echo that diagonal and further compel the viewer to "walk in."</p><p>I view a combination of textures in Nature like a "visual orchestra." The fallen Sycamore tree in the image, like other fallen trees I encounter and photograph, for some reason, makes me sad. I cannot explain why, but such trees remind me of friends and loves I have lost in my life and, after coming upon such a tree, for the rest of that day... or longer, and, every time I look at its image, there are departed friends, loves and family I think about, and, I confess, wish aloud (in private) that they'd return. &copy; A. Macarthur</p><p>The leaves of Beech trees turn a beautiful golden-yellow in autumn but turn brown soon after. Macarthur</p><p>This image of a Common Garter Snake reminds me of a Vince Gill song...if you observe closely when you walk through the woods, you will realize..."You're Never Alone." Depending on where you live, when in the woods, especially when there are autumn leaves covering the ground, be careful where you walk, sit and put your hands - not all snakes are of the Garter variety - venomous Copperheads and Timber Rattlesnakes blend quite well with fall leaves! &copy; A.
