This is quite true. Conan has become a real cult figure here in Finland. The Conan O'Brien show airs every night and again next afternoon - though a few days later than the original airing in the States. Interesting to see what he'll be chatting about with President Halonen.
lol this is too funny
Good taste knows no borders... Finland gets points in my book.
I see myself beeing a very typical finn all over again. Caring alot what the other people think about us. "Oh no, did we just skrew up right there, was the rude finnish reporter too pushy!"
It'll be funny seeing Conan mocking the country I grew up in. (Again, silently hoping he'll be laughing at least a bit with us and not totally at us :).
I'm just praying that no big sponsors in Finland have made use of this opportunity and take him around some ridiculous PR events. I'd love to see Conan visit some normal, witty finnish home with minimum camera gear. That's where comedy comes from in my opinion. And yes, also very interesting to see how relaxed Tarja Halonen will be when she sees what she has got herself into..
Good for Conan!
This guy really is one of the funniest people on television. I laughed out loud just reading this article. His humor knows no bounds.
My brother Jose lived in Finland a good number of years, having married two Finnish women. He deeply disliked the country and its people since they lacked a sense of hospitality and friendship toward foreigners (Spanish national).
Anyway, he remarried (Spanish senorita this time) and probably has no plans to ever return to that frigid and uncaring tundra.
By the way, I live in Minnesota (many Finnish people settled here) and things are about the same. What a pity we cannot all be friends to each other regardless of the circumstances of our birth...
Of course, everything eventually comes to an end, and you laugh at the human misery (instead of shooting yourself, which is more painful!)...
Conan's got it made over there since similar looks, apparently, are the name of the game...
I always thought Minnesota was really friendly...all of my friends from there have been. Hm. Are you in the southern or northern end?
Hi, again, Mr. Edward Sebastian:
Anyone should always expect to meet with widespread skepticism regarding anyone else's opinions, which usually result from both agreeable/disagreeable experiences.
In my case, after almost 30 years here I can consider myself as positioned near the lowest rung of the social and economic scale and that is, most likely, the reason for my indignant comment above. Things should be better for a hard-working person like myself but, indeed, it is quite the opposite. Therefore, we would have to seek the root cause of this disturbing anti-social mechanism in the measures utilized by the currently preponderant population segment to make things difficult/impossible for any new settlers, since no one, in their right mind, freely gives away anything, even their most previous time and energy.
In reverse psychology terms, this factual dichotomy would ring true no matter where a migrations ends up (so, yeaf, Finns would expect to be treated with disrespect and lack of enthusiam in Spain, that is why they live most of them in their own friendly-for-the locals country).
So, what is the problem? I am simply relating some relevant facts I am pretty aware of. For me, everything is OK no matter the circumstances. Noirth, South, East, and West all is Best!
Heh, no problem, just wondering.
Looking at the global picture for a sec. It seems that we might all be suffering the consequences of maladjustment. For instance, predominant European human stock is not Europeans but definitely incorporates key transplanted African elements.
The same thing happens, as a whole for our rambunctious planet's inhabitants: We are not from here and we are madder than hell because we are finding out this is not our call and duty!
If you study the generational problem, deep down you will realize that death is a settlement of sorts, a ticket back to our true home, a respite away from all this misery and devastation.
