Google should also refuse to divulge the information on the basis that it is not the place of the Christian right to impose its moral beliefs on the rest of the country. If people are worried about what their child might see on the internet maybe they should try parenting.

If they give in here, it is just a slippery slope until they are demanding real-user data that can be related back to individuals.

I totally agree with hobbledog. The government is going at this all wrong. Their main purpose is to prevent children from viewing pornography and other inappropriate material online. The government knows that children are accessing inappropriate sites every second of the day. What does obtaining search results from Google going to do for the cause, NOTHING. What they should do is fix the problem at hand by targeting the parents that have children and show them or provide them with the proper tools (ex. software or hardware) that will completely block their children from getting access to these inappropriate sites.

The Congress could also start some type of Government issued online ID rather than restricting content providers. There will always be work arounds but this type of solution (forcing individuals to give up their financial information in order to view this type of material) is just backwards.

Come on, you can't ask the Bush Justice Dept to rule on whether or not Googles concerns about a Bush administration request for sensitive, private data. Please. The Justice Dept is clearly not independent.
