Ah... maybe not "war criminals," but some have clearly been criminals none the less. Bootleg money makes them rich, then you have further mafia connections, dead people voting in Chicago, Chappaquidick, William Kennedy-Smith, Michael Skakel, and more. I also seem to remember the clusterf**k called the "bay of pigs" — clearly not a high point of American presidential decision-making. I don't think this record is much better than that of the Bushies.

I'm not a fan of either family, although I do have admiration for Robert Kennedy.

Leftist, let me state for the record I favor Kennedys over Bushes. That said, JFK did attempt to invade Cuba (in violation of the UN Charter), and did escalate Vietnam (again, in violation of the UN Charter). You can't accuse Bush of being a war criminal and then by the same standard aquit JFK.

Just for the record, the Bay of Pigs incident actually began under Eisenhower. The National Security Archives has a chronology of the events, as well as a collection of documents related to it. We had actually been bombing Cuba prior to JFK even being elected.

Why isn't the current Bush presidency dynastic? There's at least one Republican who thinks so.

The party of lincoln had left those roots by the time Teddy was in office. Teddy was a republican because he had always been one, but his party elite was one of big business and rich fat cats. That is the reason that when he ran against taft in the republican primary, even though he had more delegates, they put taft up for reelection.

That would keep Hillary out. The left wouldn't go for it. Hillary will keep herself out of the White House.

I'm part of the Left. I'd go for that. I don't want Hillary on the ballot for president.

FDBryant3, excellent point - that made me think. It's all a little fuzzy in my (deteriorating) brain, but I think you're right. I was confident enough that I voted for Nader, something I regret every day of my life. I just couldn't imagine that the United States could be dragged backwards instead of moving forward. I know better now. It's wise not to be too confident in how things are going to go in the future - you just never know.

And I'll never forget what MY political science professor said:

Uh, Rob_NC, I have a feeling you didn't read what you're responding to. The term "jackboots" which seems to have set you off came from a comment in which Vulgrin referred to the "morality police." The basis for that comment was Senator Santorum's sanctimonious and hypocritical pronouncements regarding various "moral" issues. No "American president" was mentioned. Incidentally, the only high-profile use of the term "jackboot" was by President Bush's father, who used the term to refer to federal firearms agents.

I respect your conservative opinion, Rob_NC, so I'm not going to insult conservatives in general, nor am I going to insult you personally. How about you return the favor? A mark of maturity and reason, not to mention "class," is the ability not to sweat the little things, and the sense to realize they're all little things.

You begin to make coherent conservative arguments without stooping to personal attacks and insults and you may just earn a reputation as someone who's opinion is worth reading. Keep making it personal, and you'll end up with the reputation you deserve.

The point here is, Rob_NC, that you responded to what you perceived to be a slap at the President by making a baseless and personal attack against all liberals. While I'm sure that would probably earn you some points over at redstate, powerline, or free republic, around here it's pretty much just going to get you a reputation as a troll, and not a lot of respect.

I'm trying to let you know that there is no need for it to come to that. If you have conservative opinions which you would like to express as a way of trying to influence other people, there are plenty of people here who would like to hear them.

Write an article about some of the great features of your conservative ideology. You'll get comments, and you'll have a chance to exchange points of view with a variety of people - some who agree with you and some who don't. If you just want to troll the comments looking for people to insult, one of the conservative blogs is really the best place for that. Doing it here won't increase the amount of respect you get, and it doesn't help the other conservatives here either. Just let that stuff go, man.

You can be assured that if Vulgrin went around making insulting remarks about "the conservatives" or "the 'right'" all of the time, he'd develop the same type of reputation that you are working on. A mark of maturity is the ability to sometimes just let it go, and to avoid the temptation to insult other people just because you feel that someone you admire has been insulted.
