Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

"National Security" is the new "Interstate Commerce".

    Let's see...

Terms that get an automatic, knee-jerk response from people...

    Mom...apple pie...Old Glory...support our troops...he's our president...national security...

Just tie an agenda to something that people will falll for hook, line and sinker and then, while they're busy saying "Let our leaders do their jobs." the leaders are stripping away our rights.

Some day we're going to want to use our "rights" and then the government will say: "Tough pucky pal! Ya shudda thought about that when we started takin' 'em away from ya."

We need another Revolution (non-violent, of course). Write in someone. Vote for the challenger. Vote Libertarian. Anyone but a Democrat or a Republican or a Communist.

I can only think that Attorney General Gonzales is bluffing about a possible criminal case against a newspaper and is trying to cower the media into submission. I feel quite certain, some one probably reminded him about the Pentagon Papers case (New York Times vs. US, 1971).

Although that case does not cover all of the legal issues raised here, it does establish a large burden of proof on the government. Gonzales' assertion, "... if you read the language carefully, would seem to indicate that that is a possibility." Doesn't exactly sound like he feels he has clear-cut legal basis either.

I also doubt that the administration would really want to bring about a criminal case, against the newspaper of record, in matters of classified, supposed national security, as that much of the evidence would either have to be revealed in open court or would almost certainly be leaked.

    Hetep and Respect Mulsanne

Bluffing, I don't think so. One thing we know about King Bush II and the Crime family, they don't bluff, remember Iraq, Katrina. I know attacking reporters sounds crazy,--- but these people do not have a history of bluffing crazy, they have a history of doing crazy.

First they came for the Arabs and the reporters said nothing.

Hmm, that gives me an idea for an article.

Aunk - good point. Just because it sounds crazy to a rational person, doesn't mean it doesn't sound rational to a crazy (maybe paranoid in this case) person.
