This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I hate running, and don't own Nike's but I'm thinking about this one. Hopefully it can be used on walks as well; cause I really hate how the sound of my panting when running interrupts my music. :)

I love running. Too bad there's little chance I can use the shoes to run distance in.

I guess I'll have to just stick to my Garmin and my iPod Shuffle until someone else (Mizuno, hopefully) licenses something similar with Apple. I'm not going to hold my breath, though. I was really impressed with the price point of this, though, given how expense Nike shoes, Apple products, or any iPod accessory usually are.

If the "sensor" just fits inside "compatible" Nike shoes, wouldn't it be conceivable that it would work in any other shoe if you just jimmy it to fit in the sole?

From what I've read on other sites, people have stated that you could use the sensor in any shoe, but your most comfortable fit would be with a shoe that had a compartment for the sensor. Otherwise I'd assume, especially if your running, that it would hurt your foot.

Yes, if that thing has to go under your foot somehow, I wouldn't risk running on it unless it was in a compartment designed to distribute the load. Otherwise, you'd end up with some horrible stone bruises and probably a busted $29 sensor. Further, I'm not likely to tear up my $90 running shoes to install a sensor on them which might result in getting lower mileage out of them.

I believe that you could and it is conceivable that it would work out side the shoe just fine but in order to get the sensor you would need to pony up the money for a pair of Nike shoes to take the sensor out of.

The $29 accessory is only so the sensor can link to the ipod (I think it uses bluetooth or at least something similar). The sensor will be permanently in the shoe which means you would need to destroy the shoe to get the sensor out.

        *Conspiracy Theory*
Also the battery is not replaceable so if it dies you need to buy a new pair of shoes. They haven't said how long the battery is expected to last but I can see it only lasting half the time one might expect to get out of the shoes.

If you can put the sensor in the shoe by just plugging it in there, why on earth would you expect it to be impossible to take out again? It's not like they put a bunch of glue in there and go "hahahaha, suckers!" in their offices while they watch over thousands of people do this. It makes no sense to make it impossible to take out.

The neat part is that it uploads to the Nike web site and you can compare your data with your friends data. You can even set up team competitions.

I think I might start running.

That's the real power in this partnership, I think: it has made running cool and fun, even for those (like me) who would probably never truly get into it otherwise.

I, too, have now contemplated running. But mostly because I realized that by the time I move to California, I won't be biking daily anymore and will need an alternative to stay in shape. I was already looking into such activities, so to speak.

you buy the sensor seperately from the shoe, so you dont have to rip it out of anything or buy the shoe and take it out of it because it is purchased seperately

Yes, but I would like to know how does that sensor fit into the Nike shoe and is it something that you can simply clip to any running shoe? I'm not interested in having a large bump under my insole or cutting a hole into the cushioning of my non-Nike shoes. If you check out the products section of the Nike+ site, you'll see that the sensor isn't especially thin (it looks like a mini Altoids Mint tin). It fits into a pocketed area beneath the sock liner.

I suspect that it is a impact and motion sensor combined with a bluetooth transmitter, but that's only my guess. If it does work as an impact sensor, I suspect clipping it to the outside of a shoe won't do any good. However, anyone with $29 to spare should definitely check it out and let us all know.

A number of people have mentioned clipping it to the outside of the show, but I don't see how that would work. First the device is designed to fit in a left-side shoe, which has me thinking the equivalent of a Dr. Scholls device. Second the image of the shoe I saw, has a special compartment in the bottom of the shoe that allows the main body of the device to slide below sole level of the shoe.

I doubt if it will be usable in your current model of running shoe. If it was, Nike wouldn't have to introduce a new shoe line to support it. I imagine that once the device is available for purchase, any number of shoe vendors could purchase one and design shoes that it would be usable in; but even then Nike would benefit from product name recognition—Nike+iPod Sport Kit—just like the iPod name has become synonymous with MP3 player.

For what it's worth, Engadget has reported that the Nike+ iPod device does not use Bluetooth for connectivity.

I'm really intrigued by the technology.

I just can't seem to find any information anywhere on whether or not it will work on my iPod video...it strictly says iPod nano...

Besides I need a new pair of running shoe, so this would be a good time, plus this would be great for me to keep track of how much running i'm doing.

I used to keep a record of all my runs with software I wrote myself. It does help you increase your time and performance. This makes it more intuitive. It would have to measure heart rate to be of use to those serious about training.

I wonder what my "power podcast" would be?
