People who drink, do drugs, have been jailed or forgo religion are more likely to be tattooed.
Why is forgoing religion lumped with doing drugs??
Oh, and I have two tats.

Temporary tattoos? I bet tattoo artists will love this stuff. If people like their body art, they will be getting new tattoos every time their old one fades away- and paying the same or more every couple of years. It sounds like a good time to be getting into the tattoo business. Maybe I should reconsider that I have relegated my drawing to a rarely entertained hobby. Anyone on Cape Cod looking for an apprentice?
Hey, now I get why they finally released the Newsvine artwork... "not-so-permanent" Newsvine tattoos for everyone!!!

The Talmud strictly forbids getting a tattoo, as it is an offense against He who created your body. This alone makes me want to convert to Judaism. Tattoos are profane and stupid - a transformation of something as amazing and complex and wonderful as skin into "art" you wouldn't hang in your garage.
Profane and stupid? Can I hold God accountable for the loathesome birthmark on my leg? Or is it merely okay for Him to flaw my appearance?
I think my Mr. Yuk tattoo is pretty sweet. It lets the ladies know I'm hazardous to their health if ingested...

Pshaw! A gross generalization like that is best expressed shared on freerepublic.com. It boils down to the fact that body adornments and modifications are beautiful and acceptable to some on a personal and/or cultural level and not so much to others. Your like or dislike of tattoos in no way matters to anyone other than you.
Sure, I wouldn't choose to wear a flaming skull on my forearm for the rest of my life, and I snicker inwardly when I spot folks sporting Iron Maiden tattoos, but tattoos are no more stupid and profane than is, say, the practice of ramming metal pins through one's ear lobes, the smearing of pigments on one's face, etc.
Oh, and in the spirit of full disclosure, the only tattoo I have is from when I accidentally stabbed myself in the hand with a pencil when I was in 3rd grade...

Josh of Arc: Funny, I thought Newsvine was a place to share opinions... but apparently, it's only a place for widely-hold opinions.

Newsvine IS a place to share opinions. Only you did not offer an opinion. Looking at your post, you:
- Cited the Talamud's forbidding tattooing
- Used that as the basis to offer a sweeping and unsupported generalization (tattoos are profane and stupid)
While your intention may well have been to offer an "opinion," you didn't. Rather, you offered a gross generalization.

The scope of my opinion does not in and of itself invalidate that opinion. And I didn't cite the Talmud as my basis for my opposition to tattoos. Let's work on the reading comprehension a bit, shall we? Then you can come back and debate like an adult.

Islam also forbids permanent tattoos. What about it?

Another religion with the right idea about tattoos - thanks for the info.
I have a tattoo of Obleo on the inside of my thigh...and one that says "Obleo was here" on my back with an arrow pointing down.
