Isn't it time India did something about this periodic blasts/attacks.
Someone has blood on their hands and someone has to pay for this. And history has taught us that negotiating with these guys does not work!
Its a bit difficult to avoid negotiating when your basic suspicion is that the people behind this are funded by a nuclear power.
If cold war history did teach anything then it was that the Soviets and the West both loved life more than mutual annihilation through a nuclear war. That's why they either stood apart or negotiated.
The same thing is happening here.
It's like Israel/Palestine, Hatfields and McCoy's....
Neverending struggle. One act turns a thousand more violent until it's one huge domino effect that can't be stopped.
Everyone knows that India got bombed because they are friends of George Bush and because of their huge support of the war on terror.
Always remember (and never forget): In every day, in every way, blame America first.
It's sad days like these where we see such a despicable exhibition of human violence that we are reminded why we are fighting the war we are fighting. That's right, a war on an unknown entity, a war on a noun, an abstract movement which probably can never be exterminated. And a war that must be fought.
And a war that must be fought.
without a doubt
now lets argue about how is best
and lets leave out places with no connection to terror.
and lets not become what we hate whle we ae dong it.
if you take te moral highground, noone can stand against you.
BBC has a/news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/help/3681938.stm"p://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/5169332.stm">a more informative story on this, as well as a Story In Pictures and video coverage. The comments from Mumbai witnesses and locals at BBC and at Rediff are also quite poignant.
Isn't it time India did something about this periodic blasts/attacks.
Don't pin this on India. I doubt the government just allows these attacks to happen. Fighting these sorts of attacks are hard because for any number of attempted strikes that get squashed there are always one or two that succeed. This one succeeded.
Always remember (and never forget): In every day, in every way, blame America first.
There are historical reasons for this attack happening, not just India's support of America's War on "Terror".
Anyone find it ironic that the date is 7/11?
Sorry. Just stating the obvious. :(
Yea, time to wake up perhaps. Only a matter of time til keld comes in here and justifies it.. sad sad world we live in
The date is not so much ironic, as intentional I think.
It is not intentional. There are no 7/11's in India so the date would mean absolutely nothing. I seriously doubt they chose the date to amuse ignorant people that associate India with a 7/11.
perhaps 7/11 maps to 9/11
how exactly?
9/11 - 2/11 = 7/11
thats a stretch
thats a stretch
That's logic. :)
There was also 3/11 (Madrid 2004)
9/11
3/11
7/11
Holy Crap!!! that equals 19/11...19-11=8.....and 8/11 is right between 7/11 and 9/11. This is creapy (BTW, I was being sarcastic)
that means the next one will happen on 1/11 5/11 or 11/11
*shock!
Because.... its the same day of the month perhaps?
So what, that doesn't mean anything, I could see if it was on 9/11, but its 2 months too early. I don't see the connection. I think its just coincidence.
I don't see the connection. I think its just coincidence.
Probably is just coincidence. Unless I see a videotape of the bombers saying it was intentional, I'd assume it wasn't.
Terrible.
This is not the first time India has stood in the face of terrorist attacks, but this is one of the first "serious" attacks in a major cultural and economic hub. It'll be interesting to see India's reaction.
Bombay was attacked in 1992 (more than 250 dead), 2003. Both were serial blasts which caused widespread damage. A damage much more than todays serial blasts.
I stand corrected.
Looks like India has got used to these attacks, cant do much about it.
They will have to take on an all out war with Pak(which will be good for rest of the world too i guess) or tolerate its nonsense.
1. an all out war with pak means a nuclear war.. do you understand that?
2. There are many many such occurrences (on a smaller scale) in India on a daily basis, mostly in Kashmir.. I am sure that the Indians are running out of patience now.. they cannot do much about Pak because they are a very strong US ally... this is really ironic given that the Pak Intelligence service actively funds and supports the Taliban...
3. Pak is in a very tenuous position right now.. the islamic fundamentalists and militants want to wage war on both the west as well as India.. on the other hand, Musharraf, head of the military, made a shrewd decision to support the US after 9/11.. this actually saved Pak's ass since the US would have extended the axis of evil to include them otherwise... the problem is that most of Musharraf's power base (the military) and a significant portion of the population are inclined to support the militants in both wars...
4. There have been numerous assassination attempts on Musharraf's life by the islamic militants.. India (and the US) knows that he is the key to maintaining stability in Pak.. any action against Pak at this point by either country will help the militants gain power...
At some point soon, Musharraf will have to add more skin in the game.. he cannot pander to both the militants as well as America for much longer.. the future of Pak rests heavily on that pivotal point in time... The only country that can influence Pak at this point is the US.. so in some sense, it is up to the US to push Pak to truly pick a side, not just mouth the words of support and be a paper ally...
Unfortunately this issue is political.Bombay has a lot of muslims and after incidents like this everybody suffers.
The terrorists have to take a step back and check what they have achieved by their means.
Their approach is loose loose.
god..there are some right royal @!$%#s here! Have some @!$%#ing sensitivity you MT-headed idiots.
I am so sick of seeing stories like these when will people learn this $h!t doesn't solve a damn thing. The more death and destruction these people cause, does not help their cause. It only builds more hate, mistrust and prejudice in a already F-ed up world. I guess some will never learn.

Jay Butler
Edwards lists place the terror in the proper context. They are valuable to this thread.
This Bombay incident is not an isolated one.
Jay, a murder was recently committed in a town not far from where I live by an American of German descent who attends a Baptist church regularly. I'd like to compile a list of heinous crimes committed by persons with similar characteristics so that I may be vigilant against such crimes, and to point out to people who may be unaware exactly which types of people they should be most suspicious of.. Where should I start, Jay? White people? German-Americans? Men? Baptists? I'm pretty sure that if I had a list of all of the horrific acts committed by people who attend Christian churches, it would be of not insignificant length. Would noting the length of that list have any relevance? Would it serve to highlight the need to be particularly suspicious of Christians, or of German-Americans, or of men?
Would noting the length of that list have any relevance?
That list was insane. And unnecessary, as you candidly noted.
Everyone knows people are being blown up. It didn't start today, nor will it end today. All we can do is realize we will never be able to understand the losses on such a great magnitude unless we lose someone to such an event.
Its worse than that Brad. Bin-Laden promised this and the Russian backed Heckmartyer Brigade would have done this in direct response to Condi's visit about the F-16 fighters. There will be many more of these bombs if the Indians continue to draw closer to the US. See two more Israeli troops were captured. By Lebanon. This is defiantly in cahoots with Syria. Russia is Syria's NO.1 Alli
Awful, simply awful.
Off-topic: When will AP switch from Bombay to Mumbai?
I still love Bombay, it's such a romantic name.
For anyone in need hearing something posative about this event, read this Op-Ed by an Indian journalist.
