Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Un-awarding the Golden Ball from Zidane seems a bit extreme to me. His misconduct happened in the last few minutes of overtime in the biggest game of the whole series, and all reports say the action was provoked. I agree that he acted wrongly, but he's been punished. He looked like an idiot on international television, he was given a red card and ejected from the last game of his career. To also be stripped of an award that he solidly earned throughout the series seems a bit drastic.

I agree. To go back and strip him of his award is just stupid. It seems they're playing up to the public's reaction for the sake of trying to look a reputable company. No need.

Unfortunately, most of the journalists who submitted their choice did so before the head-butting incident, and many have stated they wouldn't have made the same choice if they'd waited.

I don't think they should un-award the Golden Ball from Zidane either. You said it well icarus4586.

Italy should be stripped of the cup.

Neither France nor Italy deserved to win, both are equally at fault for all of this.

That's completely absurd. Italy has almost zero fault for the incident. I wonder how many insults the French lobbed at the Italian players.

I don't see how a racially charged insult is different from any other insult. (the point is moot anyway; the insult was later revealed to be merely about Zidane's mother and sister)

So does anyone know what the hell the Italian dude said or did to Zidane that provoked this? I'm still trying to figure it out.

Please let us know what happened. It would be great if this could appear on youtube or somewhere else. I would love to watch that interview. What a brilliant footballer. I hope he did have a "good" reason. Cheers.

The Independent reports that Materazzi said something about Zidane's sister being a prostitute. They also say that Zidane will speak on the matter later this week. Could be interesting.

At least FIFA is willing to go back and review this incident and possibly take away Zidane's award. Cannavarro deserves the award as his defense didn't give up an in game goal to the other team (Zaccardo scored an own goal for the US and a penalty in the final were the only two goals scored on italy).
