Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Should be interesting to see what happens with this. It's good to hear that even Materazzi thinks that Zidane deserves the Golden ball.

Some people keep saying that they should only penalize the person who has a reaction because it is "part of the game" to use verbal insults. I think that's just crazy. Just because fighting was "part of the game" at hockey doesn't make it right. I think FIFA will have to revise a couple of their rules and make the decision process a little better. Maybe some sort of replay should be allowed.

Oh well. We'll see what happens.

I think there needs to be limits over what people can say, but I do think that we need to keep the emotion in the game. If Materazzi is guilty of racially abusing Zidane then he deserves to be serving a lengthy ban, but if he's just said a few fruity phrases at him in the hope that he'll react - well, that's not nice but I firmly believe that we shouldn't be trying to stop the verbal volleying on the pitch.

Zidane should have kept his cool. If he wasn't retiring then he'd be serving a ban that might last several months, quite deservedly.

Materazzi? I'd need to hear what he says before making judgement
