This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

aren't you elated that these grimy, weak and pathetic hezbollah terrorists are finally receiving their comeuppance after years of trash talking and free reign? it's about time israel took off the gloves and showed them her might. israel has shown amazing restraint and understanding for years, and look where it got them -- these insolent weaklings attack her for no reason. maybe after all this is over and the dust has settled, these terrorists will keep their lids shut.

    go israel!

Eight Canadians of Lebanese origin, all members of the same family, were killed by an Israeli strike on their village

Canada should now declare war against Israel for this blatant attack on it's civilians.

One soldier captured, Israel shells the crap out of Gaza, two soldiers captured, Israel attacks the entire Lebanese infrastructure. If this was any other country, we would be reading news stories about continued peaceful negotiations for the release of the first soldier, not reading about all-out war.

Prior to this, I felt that Hamas had no choice but to acknowledge the existance of Israel. I've changed my mind. The Israelis have proved conclusively that they have lost the right to exist. Only an arab-led government in Tel-Aviv can bring about peace in the middle east.

Yup it would. That peace would come about by the extermination of the entire Israeli Jewish population.

This is more than a few captured soldiers - IDF soldiers were also killed as well as civilians.

Although it is sad and tragic that the Canadians died, it was not a "blatant attack on [Canada]'s civilians" It was an attack on Hezbollah, which happened to be using Canada's civilians as human shields, a war crime.

        insert_name_here,

can you point me to a source that indicates that those 8 canadian citizens were being used as human shields, or is that just speculation?

          Here.

By human shields, I do not mean that Hezbollah hid in their building, or brought them to their rocket launch sites, only that Hezbollah operated out of their village in order to try to prevent bombing by claiming that Israel was bombing a civilian area.

Based on the breadth of the Israeli bombing, everyone in Lebanon is a 'human shield'. By the same logic, every Israeli is a human shield for the IDF.

I carefully avoided any suggestion of how to bring about an arab-led government. The current state of Israel has Jews and Arabs living under a Jewish government. There is no reason to belive that the same people could not stay living under an arab government. There will be a few armed settlers in the hills that will suddenly feel the need to point their guns the other direction but for everyone else there will be the releif of knowing that they are not under constant threat of attack.

Yes there were a couple of deaths when the original soldier was captured but everything else since then has been a direct result of the Israeli government's agressive over-reaction. Since when did a small border skirmish justify wholesale attacks on civilians?

The Arabs that serve in the Israeli government are a minority.

The whole point of the State of Israel is to maintain a Jewish majority, whether that means allowing immigration, or trying to somehow contain the Palestinian population from being admitted into Israel.

Some other interesting statistics can be found on this site.
