Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

It's been 90+ degrees in northern California for a long time now. The news will be when its not 90+ degrees here. However, I'm from Minnesota, and I'll take 90+ degrees in California any day. It cools down here at night to like 50/60 degrees, and its not that humid. (Although for some reason most of these places don't seem to have air conditioning.)

In Minnesota, 90+ degrees is like living in a sauna. When you walk outside from an air conditioned building, water condenses on your skin like you're a can of cold beer. There is so much moisture in the air only the really big mosquitoes have the strength to fly in it (that's why they grow to have 6 foot wingspans). And when it cools down at night, its by like 5 degrees.

Over here in Belgium it's 'only' 95 today. And airco isn't standard around here.

Aaah the old fallback of weather when there's nothing to talk about.

It was crazy here over the weekend, but fortunately it's about 82 right now. Not much.

It's news to me and valuable in that those with elderly may be reminded to check up on them, those few elderly without transport, swimming pools, offices or movie theatres. Last year I believe, France had the same uniform heat and many people were killed, mostly elderly.
I'm sorry you think those less fortunate than you are dumb.

The heatwave seems to be everywhere at the moment. In Scotland this week we've had average temperatures of between 25-30 degrees Celsius. I was in London last week and they had average temps of around 30-35 degrees. It's insane but when you have women walking around wearing not much, who is to complain?

Also I wonder how much weight the average American will lose during this heatwave. Surely that will be a record in itself *tongue firmly in cheek*.

In addition to the "Cambodian-like" heat of New York City, my office building has a broken AC. So, my little cubicle is around 90º and I will die in 5, 4, 3…

Amazingly, it's actually hot here in Canada too ;)

I love these stories about the sweltering heat always seem to include something about a cold front coming from Canada eventually. However they fail to mention that the weather knows no borders and we've been sweating right along with everyone else in the meantime. Like we do every year. Anyone who's been in a Toronto summer can attest to 30°C - 35°C (90°F - 100°F) weather every year - plus the humidex.

Anyways, it's summer. It's hot. Nothing to see here.

....Once again proving that user-generated content is sometimes better than professional content such as AP.

Why is there always a picture of people having fun and enjoying themselves in water whenever there is an AP article about the heat? Oh, and don't forget the obligatory old woman and a fan/air conditioner photo either.

Every single article about a heat wave will include these standard shots, its amazing.
