`Survivor' Hatch Sent to Oklahoma Prison

Associated Press

Richard Hatch, who won $1 million on the first season of the reality show "Survivor," is shown in this Sept. 19, 2005, file photo in Providence, R.I. Hatch has been sent to a federal prison in Oklahoma as he serves a 51-month sentence for failing to pay taxes on the $1 million he won on the debut season of "Survivor." Hatch, 45, of Newport, R.I., arrived last week at the Federal Transfer Center in Oklahoma City. It wasn't immediately clear why Hatch was moved or whether he will serve out his prison sentence at the facility, which is a hub for prisoners transferring through the federal system. I think that people who deliberately dodge taxes should be punished, but I hope this guy doesn't wind up in some Federal SuperMax or something. It's so unproductive for society to make a guy like this serve hard time.

It would be far more beneficial to have him and others like him serve on work camps; not necessarily turning big rocks into little rocks, but cleaning court houses or government buildings.

Of course, maybe this guy WANTS to go to jail. Imagine the sale of rights to "Prison Survivor" books and movies.

What a waste of resources throwing this guy in prison. Just take the taxes he owes plus some form of financial penalty and be done with it. The guy is hardly a hardened criminal after all. Off course perhaps he should just be arrested for his naked antics on Survivour.

I don't think they're going to let Richard wear the same clothes in prison that he wore on the island.
