Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

it's a bit sensationalist to say that the book was open to a passage of scripture pertinent to the current crisis in the middle east. it's almost as if the reporter is insinuating that the discovery was manufactured by god.

It might be sensationalistic, but if that's the passage the book was opened to then what are you going to do?

First of all, it's unlikely that something this fragile could survive buried in a bog at all...

Not really. There's been quite a few things preserved in bogs in Ireland and in continental Europe, even in Florida of all places. Even 2,000 years later, well-preserved bog bodies (with hair and skin and fingernails) have been discovered by peat cutters.

Saw this mentioned on Heo Cwaeth. It has all the medievalists understandably excited.

Always skeptical about this kind of stuff at first.

            But it's cool, nonetheless.

              Very wise.

An ancient Irish manuscript found in a bog last week does not refer to "wiping out Israel", the National Museum of Ireland said on Thursday, after a flood of enquiries wondering at the timing of the discovery.

The book was found open to a page describing, in Latin script, Psalm 83, in which God hears complaints of other nations' attempts to wipe out the name of Israel.

Anyone else find this strangely poetic, given today's fighting in the Middle East?
