Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Heheh -- I would also note that he admitted it after being spotted hanging out in gay bars with his boyfriend.

I suppose carelessness counts as outing himself -- but it still feels as though he was outed before he willingly conceded the info.

Right on, Lance. One shouldn't make light of such an announcement, as we still live in a world where gay people have to worry about the consequences of just being themselves. I was 27 before I FINALLY broke the news to myself (I was in ferocious denial), family, and friends... I grew up in Georgia, steeped in ignorance and fear. Even after moving to Seattle after college, it took me 5 years to get all of that delusion out of my system. It should not be this way.

We should be able to be open about whether we prefer intimacy with men or women just as we are open about being male or female. There is nothing more important in this insane world than finding the happiness that can only come from being 100% true to your natural self.

I'm more liberated and happy than I've been my whole life. I'm just happy.

That is exactly the way I felt when I came out. Before, I couldn't even conceive of finding peace.

@bwells - sorry, I didn't mean to insult anyone. I've had many friends who have had to deal with the stress of coming out (or not) - and it really is a difficult, and very brave, thing to do.

Thank you for pointing that out. :-)

ha, this was pre-planned for his upcoming new album "I'm, Gay, I'm Gay".

Just re-watch those old N Sync videos...one of them was bound to be gay.

That's not a bad thing, maybe he can become a huge spokesperson for gay rights using new songs...i.e. "Let us be gayyy, gays throw flowers not bombs" etc etc.

C'mon Lance Bass, become a PR, I think you will get a lot of support out of it.

Funny who you must be famous to speak out publicly about a controversial issue in order to gain attention.

What if I started singing about student loans...most people would say..."who the hell is this dude? he's not famous"

I think it's great that he was finally able to come out. It must be hell to exist in a world where you have to hide your sexuality in order to sell albums. Because, you know, selling albums must be way more important than being true to yourself...

I may be foolish to jump to Bass's defense- he has reaped millions from his career. But the state of our society- where dancing and singing to inane pop music can pay millions, and where being openly gay can kill careers- is hardly his fault. If he'd come out while the N'Sync was going strong, he'd have brought the whole group down with him- hardly fair to the other guys. (Although the loss of their music would have done us all a favor, but I digress ;)

No need to apologize here. It was a very important digression, if I do say so myself.
