Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I hope this man's confession is true - that would mean a horrible murderer is off the streets, and 48 murders could be laid to rest.

At the same time, it means that if his claim was true, 48 people died.

No, the veracity of his claim doesn't affect the fact that the 48 people are dead.

What drives these people? It's so bizarre.

I guess we'll see the TV movie within a year or so!

I'm confused though-the article says he plead guilty today to the murder 19 years ago of a girl who was 15 at the time. The caption under the photo claims the man pictured is the husband of that murdered girl. Seems odd, no?

The girl mentioned in the article is most likely not the same person who is mentioned in the caption.

That seems like a stretch.. two Rocio Sperrys? Plus, wouldn't AP differentiate between the two? I guess he must have married a 15 year old.

If he is found guilty of an additional murder in a separate trial, he should be put to death.

He doesn't deserve to be put to death. Let him rot in prison.

        Hear hear!

I want him to have to live every single day knowing the pain he has caused - don't let him have the easy way out!

That is assuming that he even understands the pain he caused.

And have ME pay for it? This doesn't make success. I'm an advocate of torture, and hear me out on it.

I think that if someone commits a cruel and unusual crime, then they should endure the same things their victims did. I feel this is the only way to get the criminal to understand what their victims endured. Screw right in this kind of thing... I want fair. Word gets out that criminals will suffer the same fate(s) as their victims - It will be like the difference between looking down the barrel of a 9mm, and a .50. One makes you think, the other makes you think 5 times.

Phew. Yes, Shawn, right and fair are two totally separate and entirely different things.

And I hope that doesn't come off as sarcastic, because I mean it.

Okay, so you wrote a whole article on the subject of right vs. fair.

To be perfectly honest, I don't even know what the heck I was talking about. No idea why it struck me to even say that up there, because right and fair are not really two totally separate and entirely different things.

I blame it on the heat. It's the heat! It's making me say bizarre and random things!

They are separate things and different, otherwise they'd either be synonymous or the same word.

@Shawn - because of the appeals process, it is actually more pricey to put someone to death then to let them rot in prison - even if they are 18 when they go in and 100 when they die... which this guy clearly is not. Just one link about it

Yeah, unfortunately Appellate Court costs a lot of money for some reason. I don't see why once a sentence of death is given, they don't just go take care of it then. I mean, I do... but still.... somethings just don't need a second opinion - especially if they own up to it.

So he was arrested 11 years ago, and is just now talking about the 40+ other murders?

What a monster. I couldn't even imagine. I couldn't imagine being the murderer or one of the families of the victims. Glad it's over, though.

                      Jesus. Well.

I read this stuff and find myself so fascinated. I remember one sick day that turned into two sick days when I discovered that the History Channel was running a serial killer/mass murder documentary marathon.
