Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

You have got to be kidding me. This is what is commonly known as a "prank". I can understand the "mom" being peeved about this, but come on—three years in prison? Give me a break. We used to do this stuff as kids back in the 70s.

I'm sure prison-time will teach them much more than a slap on the wrist and a bit of community service. And I'm sure their future contributions to society will not be affected at all.

At first, I was inclined to say the same thing; but then again, a truly good prank won't cause property damage. This one damaged landscaping and auto finishes, which can be costly.

And besides, pranks about about cleverness. This mom managed to outwit the pranksters. I think she deserves some credit for that!

hartless I guess you stopped reading after the three years part. If you had continued reading, you would have seen that the juveniles face only probation and restitution. Only if they had been adults would they be facing the possibility of three years in prison.

You are correct. I just read the last sentence and the punishment seems fair.

Good for her. Prank or not this would have taken a considerable amount of cleaning up.

It remains to be seen whether or not this woman knew these kids—I'm presuming no... I just know that when I was younger and did stuff like this with my friends, it was always to people that we knew (e.g., our church music minister, etc.). More often than not, our youth minister was WITH us when we did this!

A good prank doesn't cause property damage. A good prank engenders respect for the time, effort, and creativity put into doing it.

Had it only been a lot of cleanup, I don't think the mom would have pursued it, unless she was really wound too tight.

A good prank also spurs the victim to plot revenge though....

From watching the video it seems to me that the father who was filming the whole thing was rather amused at first when he just through it was 144 roles of toilet paper. It wasn't until he saw the forks stuck in the yard shaped like a cross and the condition of his cars did he say to his wife "Call the police". This event moved past being just a prank and into intentional vandalism as soon as they began to damage property.

                    Good for mom.
