What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Um....How about no.

As we have seen from all the evidence, there is no decrease in this activity when we keep taking people's rights away. In fact, the terrorist activity keeps rising no matter how much they tap our phones, or check our bank account statements.

This is especially ridiculous seeing as how the 'liquid bombers' weren't even caught here in the US. So electronic surveillance and more imprisonment of innocent people here in the US isn't going to change anything.

When is the fear-mongering going to stop?

How about the fact that a neighbor tipped off the UK police?

Even with all the public surveillance in the UK it was old-fashioned police work and an honest citizen concerned about their neighbors odd behavior that succeeded in this case.

Not some draconian or Orwellian total information program.

When will Americans wake up and realize that these guys have not a clue, literally.

Congratulations, Lon and Eris, you guys and this AP story have been boing boinged!

With good reason, too; this crazy totalitarian reality bending has to be pointed at every time.

Chertoff sounds like someone trying to profit from someone else's work.

"It's not like the 20th century, where you had time to get warrants."
What a load. The current laws allow them to go ahead and conduct their nefarious schemes. Only now they must secure the warrant within 72 hours after the fact. What these thugs want is a no paper trail, no oversight, and no limits to stop them from going after their political opponents.

      Exactly.

And all the right wing pundits bury this perfectly simple and obvious idea - but why? Do they really want a totalitarian police state? It doesn't make sense.

But really, who doesn't enjoy a nice bit of theatre now and then?

It's what makes us better than savages, y'know.
