Check out this related article by newsviner Eliot Vos -- What is Google Doing
*i hope it's okay for me to promote someone else's column this way; especially since this is an AP feed anyway. I just really enjoyed Eliot Vos' perspective and figured if there was going to be a conversation about Google's intentions, it might as well happen there. :)

I have been using google for domains for about 8 months now. It is pretty nice and easy to setup as long as your domain host has given you access to editing your MX records.
I admin a very small group and our initial host had minimal access to MX records so we could not get the google for domains to work properly (receving email) however, once I moved to a new host (textdrive) I had much more control and it was super easy to setup.

I've been using Gmail on my domain for a while now as well, works really well. It came automatically with the Calendar, so I guess the new part in the offering is Page Creator and advertising the bundle. Not too many people knew about it before, so this could be significant.
Like the others, I've been using Gmail for your domain for a while, but the whole "Google Apps" for your domain concept made me think bigger: for now, this service could represent a valid alternative to shared hosting, especially for small business like restaurants, shops etc. who want to establish their presence online without hiring a web developer to create their website.
The bundle Google Mail + Chat + Calendar + Pages Creator offers some really cool services for free...
I just finished writing an article about it: Google Apps: a shared hosting killer service?
