All this publicity will make it hard for her not to declare this amount on her tax return next year!!
My thoughts exactly.
It's good news for the other waiters/waitresses, too - she probably has to tip out a percentage to them.
Other way around Corey :)
Servers tip out the host staff and bartenders, but bartenders normally don't tip out the host or server staff.
My bad, my brain deleted the word bartender when I read this, I think.
depends on the place. the bar i waitressed at in college was the other way around - bartenders tipped out waitresses... or they were supposed to anyway. i think it actually happened once.
btw i think it depends on whether it's a bar that serves food, or a restaurant with a bar. i worked at a bar where most people opened their tabs at the bar, and then went to find a seat, so the waitresses did half the work, but the tip would go to the bartender. at applebees, i would assume it's the other way around.
Bartenders often pool their tips and divide them out amongst the other bartenders - but my friends who have worked at similar restaurants to this one said they get to keep whatever tips they earn.
There is no tip pooling in this line of work. I also receive tips and must declare 100% of them. Very few jobs have any unreported tips in this day and age.
Speaking as someone who has worked as a bartender and server for (too many) years, I'll say this -- she'll hafta declare it to Uncle Sam, because it was left on a credit card. Had it been in cash...well, that's a different story. One must declare 8.5 percent of total sales as tip income, so if he'd slipped her 10K in cash, she'd be declaring....oh, let's see...about $2.25.
And though she didn't have to pool that tip with the other servers and bartenders, I imagine that the drinks were on her after work that night.
Beat me to it BitterOldPunk...About to same roughly the same thing
Dammit! I meant say not same...silly no editing after posting and waiting seven seconds between comments!
The jerk put it on his credit card...paper trail=TAXES. She must be pretty hot!
I get the warm and fuzzies if I get a 5er!
Hallelujah, sister.
Actually, when looking into under-reporting, I believe the IRS calculates or imputes the interest for all the workers based on the restaurant's average (which is draw from credit card receipt tips for the year). If examined, this could skew them all up anyway. A thoughtful patron would tip in cash.
Why is this tagged "tennis"?
Anyone?
I have no idea, bit I'm glad Cindy has her own Newsvine tag now.
i say blackmail. she knows something he doesn't want her to say lol.
when is the last time that a rich person tipped so well just for kicks?
or maybe he's in love with her.
"I'd like to take care of my parents, since they always took care of me," she said. "But I feel like he wanted me to buy something for myself, and there's a Jeep that I've had my eye on for a while."
Is this the most ridiculous statement ever? Especially when you find out her Dad will be missing work because of knee surgery. I'm sure your parents appreciate it!
