Tom Raum, Associated Press

Vice President Dick Cheney talks about the U.S. economy during an address before the National Automobile Dealers Association in Washington, Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006 calling the labor market the "best in American history". Cheney credited Bush administration tax cuts on dividends and capital gains for creating new wealth to boost business investment despite this being a bad-news year for GM, Ford and Chrysler. President Bush and leaders of the Big Three auto makers plan to meet after the November election to discuss the crisis in the U.S. auto industry. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

"The war on terror is a test of our strength, a test of our capabilities, and above all a test of our character," Cheney said.

The "war on terror" -- and now introducing the "war on nerves" -- is really a test of the accounting abilities of Halliburton/BushCo. As I understand it, their gross income figures grow exponentially with every new noun they can declare war on.

Absolutely nuts. Terrorism is not an organization that can be defeated in the sense that nations can be defeated. This is as crazy as the idea that all the "bad people" can be killed or imprisoned.

My niece's husband gave his life for this country in Iraq, but I don't for a second believe that his sacrifice stopped any terrorism.

Our leaders have forgotten what so many wise people have taught over the millenia -- when we see evil, we have to look within ourselves first. We are not only the defenders of peace and freedom, we are also their enemies when we give into greed for money and power, as we all do, to varying degrees.
