Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Is it wrong to take great satisfaction from every scandal that rocks the establishment?

Denny, Denny, Denny.

Would anything think any less of me if I do a Dixie Chicks on Denny? I am ashamed that he is from Illinois.

When I was in high school, he coached at the high school in the next town. I met him on many occasions. He was a ever the politician even back then.

A dsgrace if indeed they tried to hush it up and just stupidity if they did not act due to laziness.

Politicians covering each others butts until it blows and then someone gets hung out to dry. I don't expect that it would have been any different if it had happened to a Democrat. But I do take pleasure in it happening to the Family Values Party. What a crock.

This is ridiculous. From some other articles he was part of Internet security laws....the own laws he enacted helped put him in jail!

It was a sham. Nobody would ever suspect a senator who cosponsored web security legislation of soliciting a minor on the internet.

Reynolds was in a tight race with his opponent before this. It'll be interesting to see how things develop. The latest poll had Reynolds ahead by 2 points, so pretty much a statistical dead heat. If Reynolds ends up being the fall guy for not appropriately following up on the issue, who knows what'll happen.

Yeah a year later cover up ? you bet.
lets see child molester in charge of making child molester laws.

guess that goes with a Mexican in charge of immigration and a Chinese in charge of transportation.

The thing I find interesting is that early reports didn't say anything about the page's sex...now it's coming out that they were all or he was a male. A little unexpected.

I am not one to say the dems do it too
or to justify the gops actions but the problem is systemic
I cant see either party forcing one of their own members from office before it becomes apparent that it will be made public soon. It sucks and needs to be fixed some how, but i honestly think both parties would let a rapist go free rather than turn on one of their own or deal with the bad publicity.

Hopefully this will change some of this(i can hope) because has the GOP busted him a year ago, they would have had a whole year for damage controll rather than just a couple weeks

Not surprised. Outraged, pissed off... but not surprised... the intial reports hinted at this, I'm just sorry it's true.

Kudos to ABC News for doing what the GOP wouldn't with the same information: ousting a known sexual predator from Congress.

The reports ABC released indicated that he could be nothing but a male, the AP and Reuters however, didn't know that until ABC released the logs it had.

I keep hearing whispers that much of the US Congress is full of deviants, both straight and gay. In Australia, there are some very big names with real skeletons in their closet and the UK is well known for attracting to politics gentlemen who like to hang themselves whilst wearing women's underwear.

              Hastert said,

The improper communications between Congressman Mark Foley and former House Congressional pages is unacceptable and abhorrent. It is an obscene breach of trust.

Agreed, but do you know something else that's unacceptable, abhorrent, and an obscene breach of trust? Placing the image of the Republican party above the safety of the pages by covering up sexual predation instead of stopping it. The time to set up a hot line was when you found out what was going on back in 2005, not now that the story's out in the open and you need to do some political damage control. Nice attempt to look like you care, Hastert, but your actions spoke louder than your words.

You know, Foley's pretty low, but I'd like to think that it's a brain imbalance or trauma or something - something he can't help. No one chooses to be sexually attracted to minors. But what Hastert and Reynolds did was a cold, calculated decision to place their party's political power over the safety of kids threatened by a sexual predator. (And over the well-being of Foley, too - if they cared about him at all, they would have got him away from the kids before something bad happened and got him some help.)

For the life of me, I don't understand why it's not illegal for administrators who know about sexual predators in their organization to cover up incidents and continue to allow the predator to have access to children. It happened in this case, and it happened with the pedophile priests. Shouldn't it be illegal to "hush up" sexual predation just to maintain the image of an organization? Shouldn't it be illegal to place children in harm's way for political gain?

Hastert and Reynolds should be in ankle irons, but of course, nothing will happen to them beyond their approval ratings dropping a few points.

Its too bad the Republicans couldn't just have relocated Foley to another district, taking a "page" out of the play book of an even older institution.

If their parents sent their teenage son up to Washington to learn about government, they ought to be happy with the outcome. It took me several decades to get as good as understanding as Foley was teaching that youngster. Government is all about powerful older men sticking their haha's into weaker people's hoho's.
