Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

C'mon, that was funny. 9/11, 10/11.

Btw, from a reliable source in a secure undisclosed location who wishes to remain anonymous, I learned that the authorities recovered a pack of new Fruit-of-the-Loom underwear in the debris of the plane. But, the government is so paranoid that I just know they will ban *all* underwear on board on airplanes from now on. That's just crazy! Why not simply ban Fruit-of-the-Loom underwear?? Why does it have to be all underwear?

Christine Monaco, a New York spokeswoman for FBI, said there was indication of terrorism in the crash, but that officials "have been sent to the scene as a routine."

That's either an extremely unfortunate typo or a sentence that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I think it was an unfortunate typo. The just updated story saying 2 are dead seems to have fixed it, as it now reads no indication...

I think it was a typo, as there's a "no" in that sentence now.

        This is all his fault.

I bet he received a memo on this as he was talking with Monica and it was somehow misplaced.

Now... if that building collapses pancake-style to the ground, we have a problem. There's no rational reason why that would happen.

Watch... upcoming news is going to report that the plane was flown by two people -- a North Korean and an Iranian -- and we have to retaliate against their countries as part of the War on Terror.

New York Yankees Manager Joe Torre told CNN that the plane that was a Cirrus SR-20 registered to team pitcher Cory Lidle.

            From CNN.

Wow. Unbelievable. ESPN has also confirmed it was Lidle's plane and he was the pilot.

My sister lives at 517 E 72nd - literally right across the street. They say it was a plane. They (my sister and brother-in-law) have a week old daughter - so they're worried about the smoke. Very sad.

On the Denver side, I was running out to Office Depot and the air raid siren was going off. I stopped to talk to a friend of mine and said that I thought the siren was usually tested at 10am on Tuesday morning - not 11am on Wednesday - but I guess it wasn't a test.

Clearly more proof that the Yankees are in contract with the Man Downstairs, IMHO.

No tragedy in New York City could be more inappropriate.

I live in New York City. I know this is a minor issue on top of this tragedy, but in watching the news, you can watch every channel and for the longest time it just kept saying generically 'upper east side' and 'manhattan' over and over again.

Anyone that lives here knows that you talk of Manhattan in terms of cross streets, making this "72nd and York." Because of the way the streets are laid out, this would make the area instantly identifiable by any New Yorker. Even the article above doesn't break it down like that (the map certainly helps though). I was in a gym watching CNN for an hour working out when that guy blew up his building so his wife wouldn't get insurance money, and same thing. They kept saying the same information over and over and over for hours, and never pinpointed where it happened.

Again, not the most important thing, and my parents are still going to call me to make sure it's ok even though I'm 60 blocks away, but it just seems strange to me that so with so many news outlets, they don't clarify it more. I guess I've become too NY-centric.

@Hoppy - I completely agree with you. Specifics help. When that plane crashed in Queens back in 2001, I freaked out about my sister, who was living in Queens at the time, even tho' it turned out the plane crashed on the other side of Queens from her.

Of course, this time, when I looked at the map I freaked because - as noted above - my sister lives right there.

I don't think it's too much to ask for a little specificity when something like this happens.

Oct 11 2006, Fox News, at 6:30PM EST reports that George Steinbrenner, owner of the NY Yankees, just confirmed that Cory Lidle was indeed the pilot that flew the plane that crashed into the New York apartment building, killing himself and one other, a female.
