Rest in peace.
I sacrificed for my country too. I went shopping just like Dubya told me too. /sarcasm
Our soldiers' sacrifices deserve as much airtime as Cory Lidle. RIP. This war sucks; I'm sick.
blee, why do you have to go and crap all over this? Your sarcasm is disrespecting this fine man, his family, and his fellow team members. I'm sick, too - because of you.
AMEN!!! to that!
And to the person who said this war sucks, i'm sick! --- you don't know what sick is!
You two are just as disrespectful for complaining about Blee's post.
Now you are making me be disrespectful too!
A tip a final salute to a man who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country, his colleagues and (most importantly) his friends. He should be held in the highest regard by his peers and his countrymen and women. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
has anyone thought about the number of Iraqi people have died during this war?
america has brought this on themselves! and dragged us British into it!
Incredible. Wish I could say that I would have the courage to do something similar in that type of situation, but that takes a special breed.
"Non Sibi Sed Patriae!" (Not for self, but country)
Rest In Peace my friend
A long moment of silence and awe for this unselfish act...
Reading this story caused me re-visit the last paragraph of "The Falls" by George Saunders.
May PO2 Monsoor Rest in Peace.
I hope their sacrifice proves worth it!
RIP
Rest In Peace.
RIP Frogman.
Thank you George Bush for getting another good man killed. Since this is such an honorable war and since you are the "war president" please have your daughters become officers in the Army or Marine corp right away. Its only fitting that the "war president" should have family members risking their lives for such an honorable cause. Better yet, since you attacked Iraq for supposedly purchasing yellow cake in Niger when is the 82nd and 101st attacking North Korea since they just tested nukes?
@!$%# you for devaluing his selflessness.
not the time or place for your political stand Leo...RIP brave soldier...thank you for your sacrifice to keep me and my family safe.
War is politics. Our nation fights in Iraq because of politics. When a good man dies, there is no better time to question his death. By year's end nearly 3000 men and women of the United States of America will have died in Iraq... but to what end?
Are we safe from terrorists? No.
Are Iraqis better off now than they were before the war? No.
Are we safe from WMDs? No.
Have the fundamental ideals of our nation been strengthened? No.
Will any of us remember this man's name four months from now? Probably not.
Do any of us recall the the first American to die in Iraq was an illegal immigrant from Mexico? No.
This war is a disgrace and it shames all of us.
Obviously you remember the first person to die in Iraq. To tell you the truth, we are safer from terrorists in our own country. Think about all of the precautions we have taken now because of 9/11. Obviously no precautions can be failsafe because if someone really wants to do something, they can but there are more safety measures in place than there were before 9/11. The average US citizen is not going to come into contact with terrorists and so I think your statement that we are not safer from terrorists is incorrect.
Leo, just because you don't agree with the President's choices doesn't mean that this is the place to share them. This topic is about Michael Monsoor and his selflessness. I doubt you could ever understand the bond of brotherhood that is formed between men in this profession. I went to boarding school, fought with, and got beaten up with my mates and I can honestly say I understand what must have been going through his mind. This is the true American hero, someone who, despite their own lives, will give them up to save the lives of their friends. Also, the least you can do is support the country. The President is not the only one who's guilty and unless you are a person that actually writes to your Representatives (I highly doubt it.), you have no right to complain and expect people to take you seriously.
RIP Michael Monsoor.
Are Iraqis better off now than they were before the war? No
Well not to get into this here but this statement comes from what? The months you have spent on the streets of Iraq? Or from a Media induced one sided vision? Just curious I will go no further about this topic here this should focus on this mans brave and noble sacrifice
"Non Sibi Sed Patriae!" (Not for self, but country)
Rest In Peace my friend you deserve it
I served in the USAF for 10 years. This man gave the precious gift that he could. The love of a brother is undying. This man is a hero in every aspect of the word. This article nearly made me cry, literally my eyes teared up. I didn't know his man, but his sacrifice for his friends. They should never forget the gift that he gave them. Everyday of their lives they should think about him and think "I live because of his decision." He should be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. It makes me sad that this man lost his life for the inability of the human race to establish peace and harmony and tolerance. How many people must die and suffer before mankind will wake up? No natural resources or anything else is as valuable as one human life. The story of this man, has left my day with thoughts about him. It would have been an honor to have met him. Those of you who knew him should never forget this man.
May GOD bless all of the Soldiers in Iraq, and the people of Iraq, and may there be peace amonst all men so that no more good people of any nation should die.
"May GOD bless all of the Soldiers in Iraq"
Calling all Newsvine athiests, calling all Newsvine athiests ...
RIP Squidee
Dulce et decorum est, pro patria mori. Another poor @!$%#er dies so people can make money.
What a brave man. Rest in peace.
Just to let you guys know that this very article got digg and is on the front page.
"There is no greater love than this: to lay one's life down for one's friends."
John 15:13
No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends" (John 15:13)
Sacrifice during war is always glorified because it is public and ends with bagpipes and medals of bravery. There is no doubt in my mind that he saved lives and is a hero. But all of the little battles that happen everyday in the schools fought by teachers, in the hospitals fought by doctors and on the streets fought by construction workers make our lives incrementally better yet go unnoticed because they are not sensational. May this man rest in peace and may god help those who choose war. God bless.
Nice comparison--NOT! Since when do our teachers, doctors, construction workers, etc. (unless they are Reservists in the military) sent overseas away from their families for up to 15 months at a time, facing IEDs, rockets and gunfire--living in tents on cots under someone else's agenda? I don't disparage their often thankless service to the American people but (short of police and firefighters) how can you compare the two environments in which they work and the potentially fatal outcome of said service?
No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends" (John 15:13)
He's not on CNN's list of casualties () pretty interesting that, as I thought that list was pretty complete...
Man... nearly 3000 dead US troops.
RIP!
This wouldn't be Newsvine without a conspiracy theory... but isn't anyone curious that the US Navy could provide two photos and a story to the AP within hours of this man's death? How, exactly, does a USN Seal Sniper team get fragged by some @!$%#ty insurgent who, as the videos demonstrate, can't even operate a rifle?
This smells of an election month Pat Tillman propaganda encore.
At least Foley and the NIE are off the front page (and Cheney's drunken shooting of a Texas Lawyer) even though we were caught flat footed with a coup in Thailand, nuclear tests in North Korea, and Bob Woodward's State of Denial.
Monsoor died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, in Ramadi, Iraq, when he threw himself on a grenade to save fellow SEALs.
NEVER FORGET!
All who paid the ultimate price.
NEVER FORGET!
All who paid the ultimate price for us.
Thanks!
Rest iIn Peace.
Sorry for the misspelling....Rest In Peace.
Hey cescott! I am not even American but have done my part being what I was. Now I have one request from you only. Give it a rest at this time man. It was a soldier who did what he dd for the love of is Country. I do not care if you believe in t at all. I do not support this war in Iraq. But I find the need in bringing an end to those who perpetrated that horrific act upon America that gruesome day of 09-11 to be a must in whatever way possible. I hope a lawful one. But never the less. This was one who worked dangerously but proud in his uniform who bravely committed the ultimate sacrifice. He died for his team Brothers. Just let all negativity's go on this one will ya?
Did Iraq have anything to do with 9/11? (Hint: No.)
The trouble is, when people start asking us to "give it a rest this time" and concentrate purely on the heroic deeds of others, without questioning for what reason they had to die, well, that's when we get into a big mess that snowballs out of control.
Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11! Absolutely nothing - not one iota! (Though they'd like you to believe otherwise, and made every effort to achieve this.)
So when some poor soldier sacrifices his life, the least we can do is relentlessly question the reason he had to die. In this case, while his actions were absolutely heroic, the reason he is now dead is because he was fighting in a war that politicians have made every effort to associate with an emotionally-charged-but-completely-unrelated event: 9/11.
Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 - get it into your head!!
It's sad but true, but this heroic soldier died for the lies of politicians, and nothing more.
What is even sadder is that people like you are not taking this opportunity to ask the questions, but are "giving it a rest this time", and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next... purely out of respect for the dead soldiers, of course.
I wonder if you can see how stupidly ironic that is?
When soldiers die, there is NOTHING more disrespectful than failing to question why they had to die, and making efforts to prevent others suffering the same fate.
If I've made you angry: GOOD! Now take that anger and do something about stopping this bloody war, before more heroic soldiers like Michael Monsoor die for nothing more than the lies of politicians.
Regardless of any political reasons Mikey Monsoor ended up in Iraq, he died in service to his country and our ideals--right or wrong. This concept seems to be overlooked by many in this forum. Some of us feel the need to try to make the world a better place, not just run our sucks and whine on internet forums!
Nothing short of a true hero.
Rest in Peace.
A real hero.
