Rapper Fabolous Shot Then Arrested in NY

In a file photo Fabolous arrives at VH1 Hip Hop Honors Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. Rapper Fabolous was shot early Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, as he stood at a Manhattan parking garage, spurring a sequence of events that left him both hospitalized in stable condition and under arrest, police said. One could argue you don't technically qualify as a rapper until you've been shot once or twice...

I don't think being shot increases Fabolous' chances of being a rapper.
- 5 votes
I don't know what's worse, rappers that get shot or rock musicians with drug habbits who then kill themselves.

Fabulous shot? Could never have believed it. I mean I'm dead on serious. Fabulous is kind of like Ja Rule in a way, only he doesn't run his mouth. Nobody wants to mess with him or end his career because he's already ended it for himself. When your in one song talking about gangster bull@!$%# like eevry other tired rapper out there, then talking about romance? First, when you mention romance that makes you a pop star, through and through. After you mention romance and then talk about street life, that makes you an soft-pseudo rapper.

Well Scott that would make 50 cent, Ludacris, Chingy et al some of the best male pop acts around.

Wow, I see a few comments that are really flip just because he's a rapper. He's still a person, a human being, who was shot. Is that ok? I don't think it is.
- 2 votes
OK, I think we can all agree that this guy is a person. But why is this news? Maybe it would be worthy of the front page if Dick Cheney shot him in the face.
- 5 votes
Can you please explain why he's not a person in your eyes? Because you don't like rap? I don't particularly like rap, but that doesn't negate the reality that he's a human being. Maybe I don't like you -- should you be deserved to be shot at, also? Defend your position, I'd love to hear it.
And everyone knows that guns don't kill people, rappers do.

First of all enigma, I assumed Damascus was joking, so taking it in that context my reply should be viewed as a joke.
Secondly, even if he wasn't kidding, I still wouldn't care about Fabolous being shot because as The Pef said:
Whatever, lead the life, experience the life. Glorifying violence like he and other rappers do, sets them up for this to happen.
I have no sympathy for this guy. Not because he's a rapper, but because he's an idiot.
And furthermore, for the record, I like Hip-Hop. I just don't like Hip-Pop which is what this dummy and many other dummies like him pedal to the masses.
Get it? Got it? Good.

Evil/Liberal, I'm sorry for you that you have what seems to be no empathy for others that are not directly connected to you. I, personally, don't like to see people being shot. That's all there is to it for me.

Do we even have any proof that he talked about guns and shooting people or are we just sterotyping here?
"Give me a .40 cal wit' ten in it, I'm fine" - Fabolous
Sadly, he does glorify the 'gangsta' lifestyle.

My condolences to him, but he does look bloody ridiculous -- I don't believe he's 28 years old either, he looks like a 14 year old in those "too-big" threads.

It was probaly a set up, these mainstream record companies lawyers pay someone to stage this to get publicity for the new album, the big record companies and the RIAA need to be shot. To do this for money, is just disgusting. Not only have I bought a CD in like 5 years, but I no longer buy RIAA type music, the independent stuff is waaay better from sites like music.podshow.com garageband.com and so on. There is a lot more better music out there, all genre's too, hip-hop, rock, country, blues, etc. I feel bad for John Jackson, but no one should buy his new album to let the record companies know we won't allow this.
By being the right person in the right place at the right time, Fabolous became an overnight superstar in late summer 2001 with his debut single, "I Can't Deny It."

What I find important about this post is that it highlights the cultural disconnect that exist in America. Most young people who who he is. And they know just because he makes rap music for a living doesn't mean he's expected to be shot. Would it be more newsworthy if someone you were familar with was on the front page for being shot?

I just think it's sad that this gets top news story on the vine, when North Korea is calling the UN resolution an act of war. The world is going crazy and people are actually paying attention to a no-talent thug who got popped.
Sheesh.

Not everyone wants to fill 100% of their world with politics. There's more to life, you know. Just because *you* don't think it's important doesn't make it necessarily so. The "news" encompasses a lot more than politics -- ever open up a newspaper and see comics? Are those superfluous, too? I'd suggest that if you don't like non politics/current-events articles, don't read them and certainly don't waste your time posting about them.
- 2 votes
I certainly like things other than politics. I just don't see how *this* is news on the front page or even important to anyone with an IQ over twenty.
[hip hop thug] Yo Yo Yo! Chizeck dis article playa! My boy FabOlous got pizopped up in here! HoLLA! [/hip hop thug]
Kai, you negate any trace of intelligence with a post like that, and show only your small-mindedness and ignorance. Added to which, have you considered that every one of your posts saying "Why is this front-page news" keeps this very article on the front page? Maybe you need to take an IQ test yourself, before attacking others so high-handedly.

Thanks man, Mensa seems to think differently, but I appreciate the concern.

So madonna buying a baby id legitimate news but a rapper getting shot isn't. Interesting take.

It's interesting how the Vine comments have really turned into a lot of name calling, misdirected anger and bickering of late. Just me?
Anywho...
Hey Enigma. How many people got shot where you're from today? I mean, not necessarily in your neighborhood, but within about 100 miles of you. Probably more than one. And why would you think this guys mug would be on the front page of Newsvine? Is he more important because he is wealthy and apparently has an aura of something that resembles what people misperceive as greatness? Those other people probably had people who cared about them as well. They were people. I mean hell, even in Winnipeg a couple of kids under 12 locked a handicapped kid in a shed and set it on fire while they danced - yes danced - outside the door. I didn't see that on the front page. And that's pretty eff'd up.
Fact is, our obsession with this stuff is way out of control. We have no sense of moderation with anything it seems and allowing stuff like this to appear important doesn't help. You may not be into politics but politics are into you. And it's going on around you and affecting your life whether you like it or not.
"News" like this has its place. An entertainment section. Let's not forget a couple of things here: he was just standing in a parking garage with three other dudes who had loaded guns with them... and he ended up shot. Two months before his new album is coming out. I'm not saying it was a setup... I'm saying there's more to the story but it still doesn't make it more important that a million other things that are directly affecting millions of people's lives that are being missed by the majority while they're... looking at shiny things.

@ Ryan
I've been missing in action for about 2 months now so I can't really comment on a trend over that time, but just looking today there does seem to be a whole bunch of bickering going on for no reason. I don't think it's just you.
Now in response to what has been said so far : The guy is an entertainer. Sure there should be less focus on this type of news and on more important issues, but I think it's ridiculous that just because a whole bunch of political-minded non-rap-liking intellectuals think that this isn't 'news' then somehow it should be less important to other people.
I hate country music. If some famous country music singer (don't know any) was shot, is it acceptable for me to say "Who cares? He's a cowboy anyway, as if that wasn't expected. Get this off the front page"? Probably not. People want to know, so if people don't like this story, don't read it, don't comment on it, and hopefully it will go away...
The front page is made by people viewing and commenting. Commenting more is just going to keep it there for longer...

Good for you, keep patting yourself on the back publicly. People care and want to know all about your greatness I'm sure. Don't worry abut that latent insecurity. However, Mensa may want to rethink their acceptance of you -- you complain about a story being on the front page and keep posting comments to it. Yup, that reeks of brilliance.

Ryan OBrien:
I agree that the press is full of news about stars while neglecting everyone else -- aka the real people. I don't condone it -- but that's business (people seem to forget that the news has no inherent requirement to be either truthful or important, they just have to seel papers/ads). I don't follow celebrity news, I have no use for them. The original point I was trying to make was that I was seeing a lot of flip comments about a guy being shot, and that he deserved it, or people shouldn't care about him, because he's a rapper. All I ever wanted to say was be a little more humanistic -- here's a man who's been shot. I'm saddened by news of anyone being shot at -- there's way too much violence in the world. While I don't attend a myriad of funerals, I do feel sadness when I read any articles about violence in society. I just don't understand these people who think it's ok for rappers to live with violence and even suggest they have it coming. These are some cold, almost sociopathic, people if you're to believe their comments.

Actually it was but simply a response to your personal attack on my IQ. Keep on truckin bro.

Why is this on the front page indeed?
FABOLOUS reenactment - my theory as to whodunnit is:
Scene Opens: Fabolous stands next to his fancy car in the paking garage fumbling with his keys, Mrs. Jenkins (70) his former 5th grade teacher shuffles out of the shadowy alcove, advancing slowly with the pistol clutched in her shaky right hand, her purse in the other...
Mrs Jenkins: 'Fabulous, FABULOUS!, FAB-YOU-LUS!!!....remember me?'
Fabolous: 'that's fab-o-lus! - get it right'
Mrs Jenkins: 'I spent my whole life teaching you kids how to spell...and what happens?'
Fabolous: 'put dat gun down bitch!'
Mrs Jenkins: 'F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S DAMMIT!!!' *KAPOW!* *KERBLAMMO!*
Fabolous: 'owwwwwwwww - you shot me!!!!'

So absolutely true. Slugs like him cause more problems for young blacks than any other thing on earth for exactly the reasons everyone is talking about here. They personify violence, drugs, gangs, female-bashing, the whole 9 yards, and they seem successful, and people imitate them.
He may sell music, but he spews degredation.

Part of me is saddened that the rapper Fabolous [sic] was shot; however, another part of me is happy that this will help his career by adding to his 'street cred.'

I'm starting to think that people with nicknames such as MEGALEFT, OR SUPER-RIGHT are people from the opposite site, hiding and posting in order to make the other side look stupid.
I think it's time Newsvine starts looking at people's IP address.

Well I find his posts quite comical... Do you even know what he ment in this?

Now that he has made a record the next step is to get a record (criminal that is)

Agreed kayjay
Unfortunately, the is a large segment of the hip hop community that will praise UnFab for "keeping it real"

Hey mate, did you ever get round to writing an article on hip hop? I've been preparing one on the history of hip hop but I seem to have lost my direction.
And where did you get the idea that something has to be more than 40 years old before the history of it can be studied/written about?? A BOOK?
whats funny is all these people complaining about this being on the front page when now all of sudden it is stuck on the most commented on section.
