Why don't they just sign up for AdSense and make a killing?

Why don't they just buy a new domain and call it universaltube.com?

Too easy, and it won't get them any lawsuit money.

They might not be reckoning on winning their lawsuit, might just be after the publicity.

How hard would it be for Google to just host utube.com on their servers -- for free, for life. Seriously. If no other servers in the world could handle it, Google's could.

Hmmm... convenient how this happened right after Google bought them.

Thats idiotic, they sound like they've been listening to Ted Stevens too much lately. They won't get a dime because there is neither a copyright or trademark infringement on Youtube's part or any way to prove that Youtube was maliciously trying to destroy their site. That's like trying to sue AT&T for having a phone number one digit off of yours.

I agree with this, and I was thinking it the other day before this news story was posted.

I didn't know they had filed a claim against YouTube, but I've visted utube.com before now just to see who owns it - and its such a crap site that I figured YouTube.com should actually host it for them. Maybe do what http://www.firefox.com/ does in return.

I hate people sueing others over petty things such as this. I might write an insulting email to utube.com.
