MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
With The Decider still in power, will we be able to reverse previous bills? At least it will be gridlock which is better than before.
I'd like to add a hearty AMEN to that!
I think America has spoken with this election. And I for one am elated. But I do want Democrats to understand that they won Congress by appealing to the moderate Republicans. I'm sure the Dems understand this. I encourage all in this thread to open their arms, and discuss issues without partisan affiliation.
Lets all work together to get this country where we all envision it should be.
Like athletes taking a spot on a Major League team, maybe former competitors but understand who the new, home team is.
The Republicans have be OWN3D!!
MSNBC, AP calling it for Webb. Fox News and CNN have not, CNN because its policy is not to call races with a margin of less than 1% until they confirm that the loser will not request a recount.
The current margin of 7217 votes, incidentally, is roughly 0.31%.
While I appreciate you stating the facts. The other part of the facts are that Virginia votes predominatley on eVoting machines with no paper trail. So a recount is essentially useless as seen seen in last years November ballot in the state where the looser requested a recount and gained 37 votes. There really is nothing to recount, but only to re-add the tally's from the machines that have already been counted.
Margins in this new sort of election where there is NOTHING to recount is a new thing.
Incedentally, and off topic -- Oregon votes exclusivley by mail in ballot (most of the country would call it absentee). But their state achieved an 84% voting 'turn-out'. Maybe something to think about asking for in future elections.
Santa?
I'd agree with that. Unless there is a major problem with the voting (or there are lots of Republican provisionals) I don't think Allen can make up the 7000 votes he needs. CNN, I suppose, is erring on the side of caution.
Agreed, CNN will most likely wait until morning when the rumor mill is stating Allen will concede.

While I can't say I am unhappy about seeing Allen ousted, hopefully this fact will be the catalyst to revisit the topic of e-voting in general—now that both parties have been burned by it.

Pass me the Kool-Aid.
*Passes Kool-Aid* :D
I put this in the "takes senate" thread as well.
This AP writer is milking near dupes,
Spare a moment for all that have not lived to see this day, and their families. Americans, Iraqi trainee policemen, civilians. The only way to defend against this again is politically toxic punitive damage to be done those who fabricated this unparalleled self serving obscenity. If it means dismantling the Bush Dynasty and the people they serve so be it. (morning Barbara, get your beautiful mind around this, here's a brush, there's the toilets)
There is a good chance now that the rest of the world will stop thinking our whole country is a bunch of idiots.
Congratulations, I'm really happy for you guys. Now the world is a safer place, and your terrorist threat levels should stay pretty low for some time :)
Now put pressure on those dems, keep the hyperactive for a while... don't let them feel too comfortable, or they could fall asleep ;)
Even though I'm pretty much a conservative, I think this is probably a good thing. There is a theory about our country/democracy that it can't work if one party is in power too long. It can only function properly if there is a shift every so often. I think I agree with that.
So, now all you liberals can sit back and drink beer and laugh at us conservatives @!$%#ing about the party in power... :)
Von, why do you hate america? :)
;)
Has Allen conceded? I haven't seen anything that says he won't still demand a recount.
On the other hand, once the AP calls the election, and the rest of the media follows suit it will probably put Allen in a much tougher spot.
There have been reports that he will concede in the morning. This is a good thing for Republicans in 2008. There is not a chance that he will win, and dragging it out will only make the Reps look bad.

I heard someone on Air America yesterday say the same thing, but he also said that's what Bush did in the last election(s). I never really thought about it before, but it's a brilliant strategy. Whoever comes out first (if the election is that close) claiming a win, the other person looks like a fool.
woot
It's a good thing they're not impeaching him. That would just be a waste of time.
Party time! :)
It's funny when Bu$h "won" in 2004 he said he was given a mandate to spend some political capitol and made a big deal how the voters had spoken. Yesterday while admitting the cumulative effect was a "thumping" he really said, "well it was close in a lot of races." Both of which are pretty true. But it is funny how he got into more detail on the losing side of things.
I was watching this one very carefully. Frankly, it worries me that a state could turn in almost half its votes for documented biggot. Very sad. At least he is out now. Bye bye, Allen!
