What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

CBS must be scrambling to find a Black person to interview other Black people. It always seemed as though they believed only he could cover minority issues.

The media should be scrambling to remove all traces of race-based concepts from its medium. That would be the logical thing to do. I am so tired of the plague race is. It's time to nail this thing to the door -- once and for all. It never had a real purpose in the first place. Can you say "social construct"?

"Race is a tool to fool"

I'm sorry to disagree, but if you visit the CBS website you will see that there is a long list of just some of the people he interviewed and topics he covered -- including (but not limited to) Jimmy Carter's presidential campaign and Bradley's subsequent tenure as the chief White House correspondent. At 60 Minutes, one of the perks of making it to that pinnacle is that you are assigned your own producers and get to chase the stories of your choice. Mr. Bradley did not limit himself to one-note reporting, and he should not be remembered as having done so.

In a media full talking heads that have more flash than substance, and more interest in keeping perfect hair and getting a good parking spot than in the news and people affected by it, Bradley was one of the good guys. He will be missed.

One of the bright stars among the generally biased media. I've always like Ed Bradley.

I'm going to hell for making this joke, but...

With his signature earring, Bradley was "considered intelligent, smooth, cool, a great reporter, beloved and respected by all his colleagues here at CBS News," Katie Couric said in a special report.

Damn, I need to get myself an earring!

Seriously though, I'm sad to hear it. RIP.

Even though from personal experience I do not like this man and do not consider him a good interviewing journalist, it is sad to hear that he has passed - especially since he made news accessible to many people by being a familiar and seemingly genuine demenor. The media world will miss his consistancy and lack of "flash."

Ed Bradley was a great journalist. Period. He interviewed people of all colors and ethnic backgrounds, told stories big and small, interviewed the celebrated and the denigrated, the famous and the infamous. There are few journalists of his caliber. He will be remembered, and he will be greatly missed.

Totally agree -- Ed was a an extraordinarily skilled and talented news man and a gentleman to boot. 60 Minutes will simply not be the same.

bradley's strength was his reporting, not his race. he was a jackie robinson. his impact can not be overstated.

for me, he was the ultimate in cool journalism. he was one of those guys i wanted to be, before i got old and jaded and 18 and all pissed off at the media. he was why i watched the ends of sunday football games, along with madden and somerall's broadcasting, because 60 minutes always followed, with a delay on the east coast. bradley covered stories which interested me, and he did so in a thoughtful, thorough and ever-respectful way.

two of my greatest influences in my teenage years might have been ed bradley and bill cosby, and neither because they were black, but simply because they were very, very good at what they did.

come to find out, one of my other heroes of that time and well beyond was hunter s thompson, who was a good friend of bradley's. if you google "owl farm blog", you'll see hst's widow's blog, which yesterday posted about ed's passing.

bradley traveled in good circles, was a role model for countless journalists and thinkers, and he will be sorely, sorely missed. not just because of who he was, but because so few are still around who would be worthy of working with him.
