good.
Paraphrasing that old joke about Hell.
Back on your Head OJ. And stay there this time.
Really fantastic. There's free speech, and then there's profiting from a horrible crime.
If Simpson really wants this story told, he's certainly free to self-publish the book, and put a video up on YouTube.
God. I'm not a religious man, but these are the times I wish there were a true Hell.
It's okay, News Corp. still cleaned up with Bill O'Reilly's ratings on Fox News as he bashed OJ.
I think this may be the first time I've ever agreed with Bill O'Reilly and Geraldo Rivera. Bizarre.
Yeah, I feel dirty too. Not the good dirty, either.
life is short and hell is forever
That should delay the apocalypse for a little while longer, eh?
This comment will go against the flow here, but what the hell.
I think Newscorp and Fox did a cowardly, chicken@!$%# thing by not running this. The time to ax it isn't now. The time to ax it was when it was first brought up. Approving it, then pulling it only after finding out that the public didn't like the idea, shows that they aren't 'fair and balanced' (big surprise), they only care about ratings.
On the contrary, if they only cared about ratings/book sales, they would've run and published it.
Well, no. That's what they planned to do, but look at the response they got. Overwhelmingly, people were appalled! It was when they saw that, that they scrapped their plans.
Appalled people are only more likely to tune in, as unfortunate as that may be.
Well, then that means they blew it twice.
i would have watched it with popcorn in hand.
I covered the OJ trial from beginning to end. I was there when they brought out the bodies and I was there when the verdict was read. I was even behind OJ during the freeway chase.
This story has been, and will always be about one thing: 95 million. That's how many people watched the white Bronco. With a hit TV show these days drawing 13-15 million, the prospect of drawing 95 million viewers is the only thing TV networks care about. That's why they greenlit this.
OJ still made his money. It's just that Fox won't get the ratings...
Great comment hardnewsinc ... just one question for you: Didn't the book get cancelled as well? And, if so, how did OJ still make his money?
I'm going to guess he was paid in advance. That seems to be the case with most modern, popular works, like Clinton's memoir and whatnot. If the book is a certain success, the author will demand an advance payment.
Morally, I'm incredibly happy that public outrage still means something, Rupert Murdoch has some sort of soul maybe, and this abobination was aborted.
A small part of me is sad that my satirical news story about it is no longer relevant. :P

I'm actually sort of disappointed the interview isn't airing. I have questions that remain unanswered.
First and foremost: What, exactly, is the tone of the book/interivew? Is he still claiming he's innocent, or is he just...being careful not to outright confess that he did it? Everything I've read/heard suggests to me that he's basically saying, "Here's how I did it...well, you know, if I did it, which I'm not saying I did." But I haven't heard anything actually come out of OJ's mouth to that effect, I've just heard the press coverage of everything. It would seem kind of pointless for him to admit it without technically admitting it. He can't be tried for the same crime twice; he's legally home free no matter what he says now.
Murdoch must have figured the long-term hit Fox might suffer wasn't worth the one-time ratings bonanza. And it would have been a bonanza. Nick Ford hit the nail on the head: Appalled people, while maybe not more likely to tune in, are as least as likely as the non-offended. Put those two groups together, and you have the equivalent of rubber-necking at a traffic accident. People just can't look away.
Well, I'm sure SOMEONE is going to publish the book, so let's not get too excited here.
I doubt it, munzilla. I can't imagine it being a net benefit to any publisher. Public outrage against the very idea is strong enough that I could well imagine people boycotting any bookseller that sold it, for example.
BUt there are also smaller publishers who wouldn't mind getting the quick payday as well as getting their name out there no matter what.
smaller publishers
They would still have to pay NewCorp for the rights. And, I am sure that NewsCorp is sending this one deep into the archives where it will never see the light of day.
I honestly hope so.
Of course, there will likely be someone who acquired a copy that "fell off the truck" and will try to profit from that. But, I doubt that there will be any legitimate copies of this book that are ever made public.
I'm pleased and disappointed at the same time.
I guess I was hoping for him to come off so horribly in the interview that even his current supporters would flee
