If Simpson really wants this story told, he's certainly free to self-publish the book, and put a video up on YouTube.

This comment will go against the flow here, but what the hell.
I think Newscorp and Fox did a cowardly, chicken@!$%# thing by not running this. The time to ax it isn't now. The time to ax it was when it was first brought up. Approving it, then pulling it only after finding out that the public didn't like the idea, shows that they aren't 'fair and balanced' (big surprise), they only care about ratings.

I covered the OJ trial from beginning to end. I was there when they brought out the bodies and I was there when the verdict was read. I was even behind OJ during the freeway chase.
This story has been, and will always be about one thing: 95 million. That's how many people watched the white Bronco. With a hit TV show these days drawing 13-15 million, the prospect of drawing 95 million viewers is the only thing TV networks care about. That's why they greenlit this.
OJ still made his money. It's just that Fox won't get the ratings...

I'm going to guess he was paid in advance. That seems to be the case with most modern, popular works, like Clinton's memoir and whatnot. If the book is a certain success, the author will demand an advance payment.

I'm actually sort of disappointed the interview isn't airing. I have questions that remain unanswered.
First and foremost: What, exactly, is the tone of the book/interivew? Is he still claiming he's innocent, or is he just...being careful not to outright confess that he did it? Everything I've read/heard suggests to me that he's basically saying, "Here's how I did it...well, you know, if I did it, which I'm not saying I did." But I haven't heard anything actually come out of OJ's mouth to that effect, I've just heard the press coverage of everything. It would seem kind of pointless for him to admit it without technically admitting it. He can't be tried for the same crime twice; he's legally home free no matter what he says now.

Murdoch must have figured the long-term hit Fox might suffer wasn't worth the one-time ratings bonanza. And it would have been a bonanza. Nick Ford hit the nail on the head: Appalled people, while maybe not more likely to tune in, are as least as likely as the non-offended. Put those two groups together, and you have the equivalent of rubber-necking at a traffic accident. People just can't look away.

I doubt it, munzilla. I can't imagine it being a net benefit to any publisher. Public outrage against the very idea is strong enough that I could well imagine people boycotting any bookseller that sold it, for example.

Of course, there will likely be someone who acquired a copy that "fell off the truck" and will try to profit from that. But, I doubt that there will be any legitimate copies of this book that are ever made public.
