Associated Press

Foreign Minister Taro Aso speaks during a news conference in Tokyo in this Oct. 31, 2005 file photo. Japan has the technological know-how to produce a nuclear weapon, but has no immediate plans to do so, Aso told a parliamentary committee Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006. Aso, who has called for discussion of Japan's non-nuclear police, also asserted in parliament that the pacifist constitution does not forbid possession of the bomb. Japan has no reason to build a bomb, hopefully they'll stick to their word and let sleeping dogs lie. US nukes are enough threat to keep North Korea from bombing Japan but the possibility of North Korean nukes may not be enough to stop Japan from bombing North Korea. Not that I can forsee Japan nuking anybody even if they could...

Of course Japan has the know-how. Heck, they could probably even build smaller, more efficient versions of the ones we have in the United States.

Frankly, I wouldn't be so sure about China's willingness to defend a ideological sister nation that is must increasingly feel is a liability. While both Communist in title, China and North Korea have long since been similar in many regards.

However, it is a moot point. Even if Japan were to build an atomic weapon, which is seriously doubtful, their constitution strictly forbids them to use it in anything other than self defense. They will not be bombing North Korea.
