Lawmakers must act now to...update the subway system, which was built starting in 1901 and still uses signal and switch technology developed before the 1940s.
When Americans first stood on gas lines, Nixon vowed that we would have a new National energy policy, improved public transportation and research for alternatives. Over the decades the DOT has poured billions into things like the Bechtel Big Dig money hole and look at the NYC subways. Homeland security billions and we have switching by Lionel. Never mind the millions cramming in at $2 bucks a ride; I wouldn't be at all surprised if the switches were still on lease from GE. Like the the old Ma Bell, get a monopoly and lease forever has worked well for the old General!
They're nothing but an organized crime ring, beginning with the Harriman rail empire and Rockefeller oil, now firmly rooted between Washington and Wall Street protected by the Bonesmen running covert operations and privatizing global resources as part of the PR propaganda banner of National interests. There's a section here that talks about the Iran Contra crooks, many now policy leaders.
The progressive sardine-ing is becoming more and more obvious here - the morning and evening rush hour trains are bursting at the seams! They put more trains into circulation but it doesn't help because they run so damn slowly because of passengers cramming to get on and trains spending more time at the station than needed!
It's a circus of wild donkeys, especially when someone runs up the stairs and launches into the crowded train at full speed because they might be a minute late!!!
Anyone who has ever crammed into the trains on a regular basis has to wonder where the money goes, not station maintenance and cleaning, not trains, not a huge staff to move the millions moved in the overfilled cars. They should have the cash overflowing and remember the tunnels and bridges are collecting $6 bucks per vehicle and they're crumbling too. Simple answer is we've been robbed but Bloomberg at least watches the cash and there's a prayer he'll get the thing solvent despite the corrupt Federal system of DOT contracting.
