Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Last week I viewed a program on the History Channel about Cobras and learned in India some people believe the Cobra is God and now I learn that most Americans believe in Angels. It goes along with those who believe in haunted houses, prayer, reserrection from the dead, virgin birth, etc. etc, etc.

Some people are just STUPID ------CONSIDER THOSE WHO STILL ENJOY THE KILLINGS IN IRAQ AND THINK THE MENTAL IDIOT IN WASHINGTON IS GREAT AND WILL KILL THOUSANDS AND DESTROY THEIR COUNTRY FOR A GALLON OF THEIR OIL.

Isn't it a greater pity that most Americans obviously don't believe in Mercy or Forgiveness, or in Turning The Other Cheek? Rather than flattering their pompous selves into believing that 'God' is somehow blessing their entire corporate-militarised culture, and giving themselves a "Get-Out-Of-Conscience-Free" card every time the USA murders another Brown Person (whether it be in a distant country that has something the Corporations want, or in an American prison) wouldn't it be so much better if all these Americans claiming the presemce of Angels actually started to fight for the morality claimed by Jesus? Jesus (if you belive any of it) hung around the poor and the disposessed. He made no distinction whatsoever between kings or prostitutes. Jesus wasn't obsessed with wealth or status. He saw them as evil things. He wasn't obsessed with nationalism. He wasn't obsessed with killing people different from himself.

I can't figure out how a nation so obsessed to the point of barbabic fundamentalism with the supposed words of their God fail so completely to live by any of 'His' rules as given to the world by his Son. I have a sneaky feeling that if 'God' DID exist, and if he ever paid a visit to the greedy, selfish, bigotted, murderous USA he'd probably level the place in disgust!

Scary. This helps explain global warming, etc. Angels will not let anything bad happen.

Very scary. These people who have been lead to be believe in angels make decisions that affect ours lives everyday. Politicians, judges, police, corporate leaders, your boss; they all have been talked into "angels" and other nonsense, yet they also have indirect control over your life. Very, very, scary. It's amazing we ever got this far in our civilization.

I believe in Angels, however I never believed in Santa Claus. The reason we were very poor when I was growing up during the depresson. I could not believe that a real Santa would bring presents to some children and not to me and my two brothers. There was no Santa in my young life.

NurseRiches accurately sums up the hypocrisy of fundamentalist "Christians" who've cherry-picked the bible for all the bits which deal with hate: homophobia, capital punishment, oppression of women (it's all there if you look) while ignoring the anti-capitalist message of Christ because that's not good for business. What the vast majority of American Christians don't see is how they are being manipulated and conned by the likes of Rove, Falwell, Robertson and the rest of the missionary party who rule America.

The poll of 1,000 adults was conducted by telephone Dec. 12 to 14 by Ipsos, an international public opinion research company.

Nice sample size. Furthermore, I think that people who are likely to actually participate in a telephone interview about angels consist of a much higher proportion who believe in them. I don't believe in angels and I also hang up on people who call, asking about angels, at dinner time.

That is a decent sample size. Most polls for congressional and senate races use a sample size of 650.

With news like this, I get the feeling that America is lost. Libertarians have the free state project. Perhaps atheists should consider doing something similar. Still, in both instances I feel that a free "state" will not be enough. Perhaps some wealthy members of these groups should consider purchasing an uninhabited island and negotiating sovereignty rights from the current controlling government.

I have actually put a great deal of thought into this so expect an article soon.

Hey I really believe in angels......never really saw one but, had 2 really near life experiances with them......The 1st.was about 25 years ago and wow I wasn't sure of the encounter but thinking back it was an angel sent from some where who guided me and my 2 year old son from harm to a safe destination and exactly where we needed to be. See we were in a rental car driving to my brother's wedding got terribly lost in some city FL. and wound up in a very bad area. I was so scared and started to pray and wow signs appeared out of nowwhere and I followed them and they led us to the church ... we were very late but safe. The 2sd. was 2 years ago and that was another safety issue as well. What can I say my guardian angel has her hands full with watching over me.....lol.......Well I decided to take a ride in my car to King of Prussia mall came across a very bad traffic situation and turned wheel extreme to left not checking blind spot hit the gas and next to me see acar flipping over and fire and well i was fine it was very scarey well I'm listening to my angel every time..... Sincerely, Lynn
