This is a sad story for Filipinos. I agree with Elmer. It's a two-way street. The government has to lead the way and provide opportunities for professionals or it will risk further brain drain! Let's go guys!
This is nothing new. There are over 1 million Filipinos that immigrate per year and there is still a high jobless rate there. People are disillusioned and they have a lot of mouths to feed. This includes their brothers, sisters, parents, sons, and daughters. It is a matter of much sacrifice for them to leave but they really have no choice. That's why we should always be thankful for all the blessings we have received since many people in other countries only eat once a day, if they eat at all.

People are not disillusioned, they are simply being smart by looking out for themselves and their families.
That's one way of looking at it Samy and you would be absolutely right.
When Marcos was deposed there was so much pride at the accomplishment and so many promises that the country would now become better, however, that has not come to pass. I am talking about the countless number of people who have lost faith in their country and what their government can do for them. I am talking of people who look for hope some other place.
IMO it is need and disillusionment that lights up the fire of immigration. Unfortunately, Mav1 is right. This is a great brain drain to the country. Now, there are different thoughts in this argument since the brain drain argument is a catch 22 situation. But never the less, there is still a brain drain going on.
