I hope this is true.. but not too long in the future. If people know the story won't finish for say 4 years.. it may be hard for people to care, thinking it's a long time to wait. Whereas if you didn't say anything, chances are they would watch for 4 years anyway.

    Babylon 5 had a clear five year story arc, which was destroyed by the idiots running Warner Bros. back at the time. But even so, it remains one of the best shows on television because of that. Lost really needs something similar before it wanders off to meaninglessness the way two classic ABC shows, Moonlighting and Twin Peaks, did.

      HBO knows how to end shows on time, SFU, Sopranos, etc ... but this is network television and ABC wants to keep its hit on the air until every last once is squeezed out.
