You've got give it up for Ugly Betty. I haven't been an avid watcher of the show (my Thursdays are already booked pretty solid), but I can understand the appeal. The odd episode here or there that I have caught has been pleasant enough, even without me knowing what the heck was going on plot-wise. Ugly Betty's Golden Globe win for Best Comedy was a huge upset in my book and, while I still believe it to be wholly undeserved, ABC should be credited for rolling the dice with Ugly Betty in the first place.
The uphill battle ABC faced, taking a Colombian telenovela with a legitimately "ugly" star and making it commercially viable, with producing Ugly Betty seemed a pointless venture, at least to me, prior to the start of the season. Not in the sense that I thought the show would be bad, but because I didn't think the public would respond to a show with an unattractive lead. The fact that Ugly Betty has done as well as it has reinforces the belief that if something is good, people will watch it.
We've got some spoilers for next week's episode below. Enjoy. They are courtesy of Isabelle from SpoilerFix.
