Ugly Betty Spoilers - 2/8/07

You've got give it up for Ugly Betty.  I haven't been an avid watcher of the show (my Thursdays are already booked pretty solid), but I can understand the appeal.  The odd episode here or there that I have caught has been pleasant enough, even without me knowing what the heck was going on plot-wise.  Ugly Betty's Golden Globe win for Best Comedy was a huge upset in my book and, while I still believe it to be wholly undeserved, ABC should be credited for rolling the dice with Ugly Betty in the first place.

The uphill battle ABC faced, taking a Colombian telenovela with a legitimately "ugly" star and making it commercially viable, with producing Ugly Betty seemed a pointless venture, at least to me, prior to the start of the season.  Not in the sense that I thought the show would be bad, but because I didn't think the public would respond to a show with an unattractive lead. The fact that Ugly Betty has done as well as it has reinforces the belief that if something is good, people will watch it.

We've got some spoilers for next week's episode below.  Enjoy.  They are courtesy of Isabelle from SpoilerFix.

Episode 1.16 - Derailed [Airing February 15]: It's a snowy morning in New York. Daniel and Alexis arrive together at Mode and are being civil to one another. Wilhelmina is not happy to see Daniel and Alexis somewhat bond. Christina is being offered a chance in a lifetime: make a dress in one night for Sarah Jessica Parker. Will she pass the test? At Mode's cafeteria, Betty meets 20-year-old funky girl Charlie, who just arrived in NY. The two of them become friends over lunch and Betty invites her to a Stella McCartney party. But what will Betty do when she discovers that Charlie is Henry's girlfriend? Later, Charlie and Betty take the subway as the cabs aren't running in this snow but soon they get separated. Hilda's latest project is to study at the Cosmetology Institute. Since she has to practice, she decides to cut Ignacio's hair. Santos wants to spend more time with his son. Since he doesn't want to go see "Hairspray" with Justin and Hilda, he offers to ride the subway with them.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.
