Attacks on Baghdad Green Zone

WHAT'S THE GREEN ZONE? Also called the International Zone, it's the heavily protected area in central Baghdad that holds the U.S. and British embassies, the Iraqi parliament and prime minister's office.

OPEN TO ATTACK: A U.N. report in June said insurgents had bombarded the area with rockets and mortar fire more than 80 times since March.

CASUALTIES: Nearly 30 people have been reportedly killed in the barrages.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

It's easy to make statements. Where is the evidence?

The woman in the photograph is posing for the picture. I think it will be a long time before we find out what really happened over there. Another Vietnam.

Funny the british guarding the boarder between iran/iraq have said it has been very quiet.
And of course after year of war iran has a great deal of friendly contacts in iraq.

Iran was our ally at the beginning of this war, just a mere 6 years ago, but that wasnt in pnacs plan, we cant have countries give up peacefully. You know they were terrified of being on the wrong side of the terror fence.

It's election-season 2002 all over again. Bush needs an angle, but quite frankly, he needs another terrorist attack on America for that kind of credit for war with Iran.

... and they believe the EFPs have Hugo's fingerprints and Kim's DNA on them - 'intelligence' are missing an angle here. Oh and Putin's getting uppity let's blame him for them too.

I appears that the IEDs from Iran were made in the UK::

Eight British soldiers killed during ambushes in Iraq were the victims of a highly sophisticated bomb first used by the IRA, The Independent on Sunday can reveal.
The soldiers, who were targeted by insurgents as they travelled through the country, died after being attacked with bombs triggered by infra-red beams. The bombs were developed by the IRA using technology passed on by the security services in a botched "sting" operation more than a decade ago.
This contradicts the British government's claims that Iran's Revolutionary Guard is helping Shia insurgents to make the devices.
The Independent on Sunday can also reveal that the bombs and the firing devices used to kill the soldiers, as well as two private security guards, were initially created by the UK security services as part of a counter-terrorism strategy at the height of the troubles in the early 1990s.
