As Microsoft's Kirk Gregersen implies, having more, viable choices is good for everyone.
The time for the software-as-a-service model has arrived. With all the piracy going
on, this seems to be the only decent alternative, and it is a viable one for applications
of moderate size and scope. For bigger behemoth (CAD, graphics design, video
production, music production) I personally doubt it, but don't discard it as a possibility.
Further, adopting this model will reduce considerably the dependency on the platform.
There shouldn't be a need for "compatible" software in Linux/Solaris/Windows, just
a client that supports the protocol. Hope this is indeed the case. Kudos to Google for
this step!
