Geez, my car was towed when I went there. People are seriously trying to dig up any dirt they can.
Obama paid his parking tickets late.
Obama has ancestors that owned slaves.
Obama tried and used marijuana and coke when in college.
Obama attended muslim schools when he was 5 or 6.
Obama jay walks frequently.
Talk about a lot FUD.
- 32 votes
You left out:
Obama clubs a baby seal before every meal he orders.
Oh...wait...that one hasn't come out yet?
Nevermind.
- 28 votes
That is true, but I heard he is trying to quit that as well. As long as he is respectful of non-smokers it is just another piece of FUD.
- 8 votes
If this is all the dirt they can dig up then he has my vote.
- 3 votes
yeah, late parking tickets that were paid off. that's nothing...
that compared to:
Bush: a war criminal - a war profiteer - a liar - a retard with no soul
- 24 votes
I take to what you said:
Bush: a war criminal - a war profiteer - a liar - a retard with no soul
- 1 vote
I take offense to what you said:
Bush: a war criminal - a war profiteer - a liar - a retard with no soul
How dare you say he's a retard. Yes the other statements are true. Listen here and listen now, the word retard is demeaning and does not account for his abilities, he is mentally challenged.
- 15 votes
But you would concur that the man doesn't have a soul, correct?
- 10 votes
sorry about the RETARD thing. too much Howard Stern.
but he is a @!$%#ing moron. how 'bout that?
- 6 votes
You shouldn't call him a retard. There are people in this world that due to injury or birth have diminshed mental capacity. Bush on the other hand, probably has typical IQ, but no will or interest in using it.
- 4 votes
Comments like these aren't useful or clever. Does it bother you that people vote for your comments not for any value inherent in the comments themselves, but because they share your hatred of the current administration? It's amazing how many diverse topics have the potential to become forums for bashing the right. Not this one at all really, since it mentions something that in some way involves politics. I mean, it's only a tiny step, really, from unpaid parking tickets to Bush being a soul-less, war-mongering retard, but I can imagine this block of comments fitting comfortably into just about any topic that might come up.
- 14 votes
Captain Carrot, it's just amazing that a furor arises over Obama's making good his reckless disregard for the parking laws of Cambridge, Mass., and yet Bush's unremorseful disregard for the law of the land gets a pass. As the chant no doubt will have it, Barack made restitution while Bush broke the Constitution. If you're going to give a black man grief for making good on 17-year-old parking tickets, give Bush appropriate grief for killing 3,200 Americans, hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, ruining America's reputation and attempting to destroy our civil rights. Fair is fair, you know. What's the penalty for mass murder? Probably more than $375, even discounting the fact no lateness fee is attached.
- 6 votes
Captain, I agree with you. In fact, I believe I have seen blocks of similar comments all over the vine. It's almost like that "Kevin Bacon" game, you know, where you try to link people to Kevin Bacon. . . how can we link this article about inseminating elephants to W being Hitler? There's always a way. It really does get absurd. Mark, the problem with your argument is that THERE IS NO FUROR. I, and most conservatives I know, don't care about this. If anything, this incident humanizes Obama and makes him seem more appealing to the masses. This hardly seems like a right-wing plot to "dig-up dirt" to me. Actually, the more I consider it, these instances (like the "ancestors-owned-slaves" issue) might fit more neatly into the category of left-wing plot to bolster rapport between a chosen candidate and make the right seem ridiculously eager to smear a candidate with stories that have no bearing or substance. Not that I believe this, but the point is that--in the end--these stories won't hurt Obama, and everyone knows it.
- 3 votes
should be "build rapport between a chosen candidate and a populace that probably has more than their fair share of parking violations." :)
- 1 vote
If you're already busy correcting other peoples spelling mistakes. It's Führer. ;)
JeanCauvin5, I so agree with you on the whole Kevin-Bacon-Game issue. I'm amazed about the variety of subjects at some point dealing with Hitler. Hell, if I was to open a thread about Strawberries this morning, I promise you by noon tomorrow the name Hitler would have already been mentioned at least twice. Even if just because somebody one day heard somebody say Hitler was allegedly allergic to them.
- 2 votes
Many people are unaware, Angie *, as perhaps you are, that Hitler's autobiography was originally titled "Mein Erdbeeren" or "My Strawberries" and there was a passage in which the future German dictator likened his efforts to establish the National Socialists to the struggle he had trying to get his strawberries to grow in the tricky Bavarian climate. However, his publisher didn't like the analogy, eliminated the passage (which has since been lost) and retitled the book "Mein Kampf" ("My Struggle".
Did I get it in by the noon deadline? ;)

This is news?
- 11 votes
Amen Copenhagen. Imagine a world where we were provided in depth knowledge about a candidate's beliefs, past records, and work experience. Alas, no matter who is involved the press, hell even those involved in the process are more interested in crap like this.
- 2 votes
This is news?
For the AP it is. For me, it's a reason to go offline for an hour and ponder why I even bother reading 'news'. For Hillary, it's a reason to go masturbate.
- 3 votes
Hillary, it's a reason to go masturbate.
My day is ruined. Thanks.

You have successfully scared me for life Angie. Thanks. ;-)
- 4 votes
Sorry guys. I don't find the idea attractive either but it had to be said. ;)

If Hillary masturbates does she let her left hand know what her right hand is doing? I mean, for plausible deniability's sake, later.

"Had I known then what I know now I would not have plunged my finger where it clearly should not have gone. I was misled, however, by promises of longlasting and ecstatic gratification which have proven to be chimerical."
The man isn't saying he is God. He just wants to run for president. He didn't claim walking on water and being perfect made him qualified!
Who the hell cares if he had tickets from when he was in college? The things they are finding to call him out on are just ridiculous. It has no bearing on whether or not he can run our country.
- 7 votes
I kinda doubt he'll be doing a lot of parking if he becomes president.

Has anyone noticed how quiet the Right Wing has been on the Vine. It took some time but I believe even the most hard core Bush supporters have finally accepted the fact that this man has seriously f^*%ed up.
- 6 votes
It's not so much that they've been quiet as they just don't want to comment on stories such as this (which by the way has NOTHING TO DO WITH BUSH) which are obvious political shill pieces.
- 8 votes
JC
Maybe it has to do with:
Coultergeist
Sanchez-Rod Major
Libby
Cheney
Rove
Walter Reed
Troops
Chickens coming home to roost

Has anyone noticed how quiet the Right Wing has been on the Vine.
It seems to me the left wingers are the one voting this up the vine which I find odd since they all say it's not news (which I agree with).

I cannot claim that one--it's what Keith Olbermann calls her! HA!

I guess the conservatives will have to keep digging maybe something will stick. Perhaps they are just a little upset that they cannot come up with more. Let's see now, they have tried to:
expose his family history as something negative
nail him on his blind trust
question his heritage or blackness
expose his church as a cult
place him in a Madrasah as a child
come up with anything that will put him in a negative light--parking tickets.
I cannot wait for the next thing. I guess the stock/blind trust issue did not stir up anything and so next day we have the parking tickets.
As I said in another post about Obama--NEXT...
As I said in another post about Obama--NEXT
I am in complete agreement with you. I don't know enough about Obama to like or dislike him and I certainly don't take my impressions from stories such as these.
My whole point was, again, it is not the conservatives who are highlighting this story on Newsvine.
- 4 votes
JF
Maybe it is just the sheer ridiculousness of this article that is garnering the votes. Maybe not on Newsvine but somebody somewhere is driving these inquiries into Obama's past. Now who could that be?
Welcome to the national spotlight Obama, where every action and word you make will be parsed and analyzed until the cows come home.
- 10 votes
If the tickets were still unpaid it might be worth a very very short blurb. As it stands now - why is this a story?
- 5 votes
It is nice to know all the digging has turned up something. College era parking tickets whose value, with late fines is less money than the usual lunch tab for the lobbying crowd. What is the point of this nonsense?
- 12 votes
i can't @!$%#ing believe this is the headlining story for the newsvine homepage (or any news media) right now.
i thought newsvines was better than that...right?
- 2 votes
Thank the AP for that. I believe they set the "importance" of the story so Newsvine's software can put it in the right spot.
- 3 votes
ah ok, good to know. Well i guess i'll redirect my outrage at the AP.
- 2 votes
Mark David Chapman...I couldn't agree more. It is too early for this stuff anyway.
- 3 votes
No Karl, you see all these comments and all those votes. That's what sets the importance. Because everyone needs to chime in with how outraged they are that this is even being reported the story gets bumped in importance.
- 6 votes
I am no neo-con.
There is a very loose connection here...
wrycatcher I associated with The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. This made me think of Holden Caulfield and his hatred of phonies. This in turn lead my strange mind to think of Mark David Chapman who considered himself as 'the catcher in the rye' when he shot John Lennon in the back. In Mark David Chapman's mind Lennon was of course...a phony.
I told you it was a loose connection but there it is.
I thought that someone might understand but as per the norm on Newsvine...I am all alone. : )
- 5 votes
really adam? i thought the top story was set in the same unknown way the top wire stories were, and it made sense the way Karl says the AP picks the top stories. often when they first show up there they have very few comments or votes.
in anycase, i can understand commenting on how this is garbage, but WHO is voting this up?
- 2 votes
Mark David Chapman was Lennon's assassin. A little bit of a creepy reference.
I lived next door to Cambridge Mass for ten years, and I can tell you that getting parking tickets in that town is basically a cost of living.
- 2 votes
That's exactly what I was going to say. Anyone who knows what having a car is like around Boston knows that parking tickets are a rite of passage. But try telling that to people who don't want to see Obama succeed.
- 1 vote
That's what I was thinking, Daniel. How dare he pay his parking tickets?! That's not the Chicago way! You accumulate parking tickets and by the time the city boots your car, it's probably time to get a new car anyways.
if you leave college without a few parking tickets, you rode a bike.
AT my college, the parking metters were max 1hr. Classes 50 minutes. Sounds like plenty of time till you realize that parking is a biatch. You always leave early for class to try to find a kind of close spot. Because you had to leave early just to find the spot, you meter will probably be expired right as class is letting out.. and so cue the ferris bueller music and run out the door and try to beat those evil meter maids.
And i also dont know where you went to college but the college would often raise parking fines, to offset the raises in tuition.(yeah tuition only went up barely more than inflation but ofcourse your student fees went up, your books and parking and houseing and food, but we didnt raise tuition more than just a bit more than inflation.
- 2 votes
if you leave college without a few parking tickets, you rode a bike.
Hahaha, AMEN. I got a parking ticket when my car was buried under 11 inches of snow my senior year. They dug out a hole for it on my windshield.
I haven't paid it.
Our mayor and many other elected officials have plenty of them too, its been on ours news 'round these parts a lot lately. I could really care less.
- 3 votes
If this is the worst anyone can come up with on Obama...
- 3 votes
yeah it sounds trivial compared to what dirt they have brought up on politicians in the past.
I am beginning to think he should run for pope.

I am beginning to think he should run for pope.
Ohhhhh, I like this idea <giggle/>
I log into Newsvine to catch the latest news of relevance to a global and politically committed audience, and what is the front page story? Obama pays parking tickets 17 days late. How terrifying. Now I need to go watch an Asian horror movie to calm my nerves down.
Who knows what Obama may do in the future as a president? Perhaps he would park illegally in a vacant parking slot for disabled people and find himself impeached? Surely he is a liability to the Democratic Party.
Or, the editorial process of AP is a liability to Newsvine? Hmmmm...
- 7 votes
Years, not days. Not that it's particularly any more newsworthy that way.
- 1 vote
yea, years... 17 years... I got it wrong when I wrote the comment, but I did read the story. I swear...

I cant believe "you people". This is a flagrant flaunting of the law. He is supposed to set an example. Now every black man in America will think it is OK to ignore parking tickets. Not only that, it was sneaky and not very clean to wait until right before he started his campaign to resolve the matter. Time will tell what other skeletons he has in his closet, but oh, I forget. He is a black liberal democrat and will be given a pass by the white liberal establishment who want to shove a black president down the throats of the "angry white male".

Now every black man in America will think it is OK to ignore parking tickets.
I suppose then every white man in America will think it is okay to snort coke, drink alcohol, desert your military duties, make money without earning it, sell out your country, invade other countries, lie to the American people, be compassionate without compassion, be given a PASS by the white conservative establish who want to shove a shiftless, lazy, lying white president down the throats of "angry black PEOPLE."
- 10 votes
Whenever someone says 'you people', I do one of two things:
- remember the really funny scene in Office Space where the guy is fighting for his job in downsizing meetings (What is wrong with you people? Can't you see? I've got people skills!)
- summarily discount or ignore the next 3,000 or so words they speak, in a sort of ignorance penalty.
But hey, in this case i'm doing both - I really like Office Space, after all.
- 7 votes
It's a jump to conclusions mat! lol
That provided a great mid-day laugh for me...thank you!

I sincerely hope you jest, Craig...
He is supposed to set an example. Now every black man in America will think it is OK to ignore parking tickets.
Why only black men? Because no self-respecting white man would accept Obama or any other black man as an example?
Oh, apologies... does this make me sound like the force-feeding "liberal establishment" or, perhaps, "an angry Asian male"...? (thick layers of sarcasm and extra packages on the side)
- 2 votes
Oh, and if this is a "skeleton in the closet" medical school should be cut by at least one semester and Cameron be celebrated as the world's leading archaeologist for having discovered the uncorrupted body of Christ.

First off you need to switch to decaf. Ease up a bit.
RyanXP made a reference to office space, so I followed suit.

Office Space is a movie but that's cool.
Again, I am no Neo-con. Neo-cons were for the invasion of Iraq (I was not), the future attacks on Iran and Syria (I am not). If you were to look at who the neo-cons are and how they started and then take a close look at who I am, you will see that I couldn't possibly be a neo-con. I know that you wont believe me but it is true. Even with the minimal information I have provided in my column on Newsvine, you can see who I am if you pay attention.
Anywho...can you believe that Obama would have parking tickets that are that old and unpaid! I also heard (this is not confirmed yet but it might be true) that Obama is the father of Anna Nicole's baby!
- 4 votes
Richard, don't feel bad, anyone who disagrees with Daniel A. Hallo is a Neo-con. It's best to just ignore him. He's mostly harmless.

Damn, I haven't been called nefarious or even dastardly at all today.

Speak softly but carry a big stick
You should try hitting yourself in the head. You throw out the term neo-con so often that your bound to hit something. Didn't you ever read "The Boy Who Cried Wolf?" There's a valuable lesson there that you would do well to learn.

This is a top story on Newsvine because you all chose to comment on it....oh wait
- 7 votes
i find this one pretty amusing and sooner later with storied like this one hitting the front page, even the right will begin to understand just how clean obama's character really is.
the smart ones see through the grasping for straws and realize just how desperate the GOP is.
as much a you might want to hate these stories, they actually bode well for the future.
