This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

The fact that Hollweg was lucky enough to escape serious injury should not lessen the severity of the punishment. There are plenty of folks who always argue the other way when the players injury seems to outweigh the seriousness of the infraction. These folks were screaming in Ottawa when Chris Neil's hit took Chris Drury out of the lineup for two weeks. And, again they cried when Cam Janssen took out Tomas Kaberle.

Simon should be gone for the remainder of the season. He should have to apply for reinstatement next fall like Marty McSorley and Todd Bertuzzi had to do in the past.

I don't think there will be any fear of that. Considering his history, and the fact that this was on par with what McSorley did, I wouldn't be surprised if Simon never plays in the NHL again.

For those who haven't seen the hit, here it is

Jeez, I don't get NHL style hockey... So I take it eye protection is not required, eh?

At the NHL level while helmets are mandatory the use of face shields, visors, etc. are up to the individual player with many players opting not to use them for visibility reasons. You'll almost never see a full face shield or cage worn unless a player protecting an injury of some sort.

Hollweg's check was not clean. Just like the rangers played dirty all night. I'm not surprised it boiled over to this. I blame the refs and Simon, Simon overreacted, but the refs just fueled the fire by being extremely inconsistent with calls, culminating with about 20 seconds left when a clear goal was waived off. I just don't want people thinking that Simon was responding to nothing, Hollweg hit him with a filthy hit before this (not clean like this article says).

He will play in the NHL again, and it will probably be in an Islander jersey. McSorely did this, but the guy he hit was injured. Hollweg is a crybaby who needed two stitches.

I have no interest in this emotionally, being a Blue's fan :) However, I say he's going to get an extended suspension due to the similarites with McSorley's hit on Brashear. They were both vicious two handed slashes to the head. Even when he gets off suspension, he's going to have a reputation, and most teams will avoid him like the plague.

Hollweg is a piece of sh-t. If there were repercussions for his actions all year, this doesn't happen.

Not nearly as bad as Avery. I agree Bettman should crack down- especially on him. Avery, who is a "meathead", as he likes to call it, would hopefully be suspended many, many times.

The funny thing is is that one of the dirtiest, least classy players in this league, Sean Avery, is insulting him. I would've cheered if he did this and ended that jerk's career.

            Nice attitude.

There have always been players who are very physical and occasionally hit dirty. Hollweg's hit on Simon was borderline to me. The Isles broadcast crew and ESPN both felt that Hollweg's hit was completely legal.

Simon is the chump here. He could have done any number of things to retaliate for the hit. A two-handed slash to the face is not one of them. He should be done for this season.

Ok, but Avery is still a filthy player. This is akin to what Bertuzzi did. He was a clean player, but lost his cool.

I say kick this guy out of the league forever. The NHL needs to send a message that shots to the head are not acceptable. It seems this cheap shot stuff is happening every week. What's it going to take to wake Colin Campbell up. Someone getting his head chopped off on the ice. I saw this play on Fox News tonight. I haven't seen a hockey highlight there all year long. If someone only sees one play this year I bet this is the one they see.
