What is the correct procedure now when Bush attempts to refuse the process? I mean, legally, what happens next here? Can Rove be frog marched out of the white house? Or does Bush just stand at the front door of the oval office tearing the subpoenas into shreds and leaving them on the welcome mat?
Can the Democrats authorize force to enter the white house and seize Rove? Can Bush send the national guard into the senate and seize the congressmen there?
Seriously, how does this kinda thing work?
I believe if they don't respond to the subpoena that they'll be found in contempt of Congress. From the Wikipedia article, though, it looks like things could get really ugly from there, since it then goes to the Department of Justice to be sorted out. Since the DoJ is at the heart of this inquiry, it'll be interesting to see how this all pans out. Any Law-Talking People out there who have more of a clue?
Steven Colbert hit the nail on the head last night, paraphrasing and minus his dry wit, he said something like this.
"Thumbing his nose at Congress is proof that the President and GOP have enormous kahunas. The Democratic Congress has shown they have none. The President can have secret prisons, illegal wire tapping, domestic surveillance, out a CIA agent, invent WMD's and invade a country, with no threat of Impeachment. The GOP Impeached Bill Clinton over a BJ. By doing nothing to Bush for his actions, it shows who has kahunas and who doesn't. Having a giant pair is all you need to have everything run your way."
Actually, Clinton was impeached for committing perjury, i.e. lying under oath in court.
