The House isn't filibustering, but the president is threatening a veto. Seems to me it's Bush that doesn't support the troops... after all, he sent them there with no clear plan for occupation, inadequate body and vehicular armor, an audit clearly shows $8.8B missing and unaccounted for in Iraq (even Fox News reported that one), etc. Bush complains that Congress is trying to micromanage the war, but if this administration was capable of competently managing (including Katrina response), such show-downs wouldn't be necessary. As it is, every "emergency" supplemental Bush has wanted, he's gotten... but what's to show for that money other than a lot of funerals?

I cant believe that these words are actually coming from my fingers. But i agree with Darth on this one, those invertebrates in the house do not support the troops, or they would would have gotten our sons and daughters out of this illegal war. And Despite the rhetoric, it is illegal under international law and b4 you say it doesn't apply to us, it is also law due to american treaties.
Now as for Afghanistan, that job is still unfinished and it is pretty obvious that the administration doesn't not support those troops and their just and legal mission.
Cheney needs to be impeached now and then sent to prison for life.

The house is simply doing it by the numbers. If Bush vetoes their bill, then it is Bush who cuts funding to the troops for political reasons. The house could have cut funds themselves - but that would empower Bush by making his veto appear to support the troops.
As for Cheney, he's not doing it for the money, nor the power, nor some idiot vision of salvaging Iraq. He's doing it because he knows if he doesn't then Bush will turn on him - and if Bush turns on him they all go to hell together. Cheney isn't evil; he's afraid. Just as they all are.
With the possible exception of Bush, who might not possess sufficient frontal cortex to experience fear.

But i agree with Darth on this one
Dude, if you find yourself in that position, perhaps a re-evaluation of the situation is in order?

yeah and thats the point, they care more about their own jobs than doing what is right. They worry what the swiftboaters might say on the sunday talk shows. And i say grow a back bone, who cares if cheney says you hate the troops. History is no where as dumb as the present.
AND FYI DEMS, it aint going to work.. see with the pork in the bill and since you never cried loud enough about the gops pork and even said that nonscence would stop when you were reelected, well you gave the swiftboaters all they need, and bush all he needs to veto the bill.

I have to sigh as I realize that Cheney headlines are starting to sound like a bad version of Mad Libs - Cheney: ____— doesn't support troops.

Does Dick Cheney have any credibility with anyone anymore?
I mean, is there a single person out there who believes anything he says?
Lord, I wouldn't trust that man if he was swearing on a stack of Bibles...

Cheney is just worried about his retirement fund from Halliburton.

I thought that Cheney already made it clear before the election that his opposition supports the terrorists, so why is rerunning this soundbite news? Can we get Gonzales to weigh in or does he have reservations to stay with Rummy at Mount Misery?

So either you support the war, or you don't support the troops. This straw man is all the Bush admin has left.

A straw man named Osama was all they had to begin with. They aren't bothered by lack of substance or fact.

Isn't it clear by now that this Administration at its highest levels is utterly delusional? It is time to end this catastrophic leadership.

The Policies are undermining the troops, the entire armed forces, the entire constitution the armed forces are duty bound to defend.
Just my opinion.

I can smell Cheney's desperation. Preaching to the converted is all they have left.

MTH-
i agree with you.. they are trying once again to spin up the propaganda machine to get the right wing bloggies to bubble up some new inflammation. there will always be the gogos and the yars, that will run these tired assed old themes into the ground at the expense of their own credibility..
what the administration fails to realize is that in putting the spin unto the "talking points" crowd, they just lose that much more influence with people who can still think independently.
on the other hand it may be a test.. to ascertain just how long the dradle will spin this time around. if it stops quickly, they will know that they have used up the "___— doesn't support the troops" argument and they will need to get rover a few more tabs of whatever he uses to make the strange brew that keeps the hard core right in their euphoric state of denial.

Well I think that this sort of nonsense played well after America was still freshly-stupid after 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq, but it's wearing very thin now.
But, I do not think the crowd that would love Cheney can be disregarded. They are believers, they are dedicated, and they are team-players. I think the Bush Administration is willing to protect their hard-core base, and batten-down-the-hatches until an opportunity to get regular people on their side again presents itself.

Democrats have no shame. Without funding, we can't pay the companies like Halliburton who are just trying to make a buck. These companies have a RIGHT to their profits and going to war stimulates the economy by making these companies a lot of money. The longer we are at war, the better it is for the military industrial complex. Dems should be sued for interfering in their business, and since Cheney is a Halliburton employee (his profits from stocks, etc. have only been deferred until after he is out of office), it's like a direct affront to the White House. Our elected officials have a right to profit from war.
we should award that blood clot the congressional metal of honor, atleast it slowed cheney down a bit
