Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Is it a good or bad sign that the most senior Iranian official to have spoken is from the Foreign Ministry.

I take it to be a good sign that no higher officials and certainly Ahmadinejad have so far been silent, and hope that Tony Blair would keep up the pressure with firm and credible messages. From what I read, I think military action is clearly not an option.

Military action is always an option, though hopefully a final option.

The repeated use of the female captive is not a positive option - and why do they insist on dressing her up in a shawl? It isn't part of her uniform...

A question not being answered is why have the ships coming from Iranian waters and going to Iraq been stopped and searched and with this action what is actually being found on those ships, as far as the Brits go, this move seems to be a counter referencing the ship searches?

It was a UN sanctioned search. Ships often hug the Iranian coastline to avoid being searched and then try to slip past the inspectors at the very end of the voyage.

Is there a possibility that the autos being used as the bombs in Iraq are possibly being made in Iran and shipped up the coast in order to be undetected so as to be smuggled into Iraq?

It appears to be plain old-fashioned crime. Smuggling is big business.

Why is it that my inclination is to believe that the UK sailors did stray in Iran's waters
and not the strong denials coming from the UK government? Perhaps it is the sight of the Foreign Minister, Magaret Beckett, who is anything but convincing and of course Tony Blair's reputation for mendacity is now truly established And may we remind the media that the 'rest of the world' is NOT Britain, the USA and European Union? Also, that those outside 'the rest of the world' are becoming increasingly well informed and capable of deciding right from wrong?

From the start, the Iranian Ambassador to London gave British diplomats a set of coordinates for the location of the confrontation.

Margaret Beckett, the Foreign Secretary, told the Iranian Foreign Minister that these compass points actually indicated a spot clearly in Iraqi waters. She tried to give Iran an exit route by suggesting that it might all be a misunderstanding that could be resolved by an immediate release of the captives.

As far as Iran is concerned in the minds of many in the 'west' it is very much a case of 'give a dog a bad name and hang him' huh?

It's clearly wrong to believe that the captured sailors would be sincere in their apology, given the cirucumstances of duress.

Why then, is such evidence admitted in the Guantanamo detainees' trials?
