Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Such a tragedy. It will spark a debate about gun laws which will fall on def ears a couple months down the road.. then next year it will happen again. Unfortunately no matter how tough the gun law IMO, this is un preventable.

"The president believes that there is a right for people to bear arms, but that all laws must be followed," spokeswoman Dana Perino said.

I think that that kinda ges without saying. Why bother announcing that now? I can't believe he would defend gun laws while everyone else is worrying about their friends and family.

Actually, I don't think that the conversation will fall upon deaf ears. This is going to be a huge argument in the 2008 election.

I'm with you there, and will be spending some time putting through an article.

It all starts with "The Right to Bear Arms" bull@!$%#....and I'm all for it as soon as they'll let me buy an F-16 or an aircraft carrier.

SUE, I hope you read the comments because your information sucks. It is unclear whether these were two separate shootings or a single incident. Please do not use absolutes when information is unclear. As a reporter, you should be held to a higher standard. Please use more caution in your news reporting! Ultimately, it may be one shooter, but that is not known at the moment. The so-called bad response from the school is exacerbated by you relaying that the killer shot himself when another killer may well be on the loose. Again, all I ask is you please use more caution. And if you get this information from elsewhere, maybe you should start conducting your own research or credit someone else so they can take the blame.

Charlie

The tragedy will undoubtedly produce security loop holes that should be closed for the sole purpose of safety, in this day and age of instant communique, and especially on a University Campus the size of VT the lack or need to increase this communique for safety sake is absolute, not only for VT but for the all areas where large populace could be in harms way, I believe this was one of the responsibilities that the Homeland Security Post was to address, response time to an emergency?
