Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

OS's aren't boring! At least they shouldn't be. Apple does a great job making their OS seem exciting. If Microsoft were to make a list of the specific things that people might be interested in (not just security and networking or w/e), people might be more interested in Vista. Sure, most of the improvements are behind the scenes kinda things, but that's the direction they need to go in: advertise the new cool features.

How about helping me out by pointing to some of the "cool new features"? I've been using Vista for a couple of weeks now, and I haven't found any yet.

I have, however, found that some of my favorite software doesn't work. And boy did that make the $300 for the upgrades (Vista and Office 2007) worthwhile!

oh, i don't actually know any cool new features. i was just assuming that there would be some. but hey, maybe Microsoft just didn't think that that was an important enough thing to include.

Basically all Vista did was catch up a bit to Mac OS X, and maybe go a little further in terms of...well....they use transparencies? (although apple did that 6 years ago...so yea, just catching up)

I wish that Dell had done this from the start. I did a job for a small company in March and Dell would only sell me machines with Vista. So, reluctantly, I placed the order. While the OS is far better looking and more secure than XP, it was challenging at best and impossible at worst to get some of the company's applications working under Vista. Most notably, their accounting software totally croaked and their shipping software worked only with a lot of tinkering with the applications and Vista's compatibility modes. I had to leave all of the old machines in place until the accounting software is updated to run on Vista.

It will be quite a while before we start buying Vista for our company computers. My two net admins are running it and are wishing they hadn't upgraded. They're now running XP in a VMware machine to run all their admin tools, so they can continue to get their work done.

Can't wait to upgrade our ERP software to their latest browser based client. Then, with Open Office on Linux, we'll be able to seriously consider replacing MS.
