Oh the bitter sweet irony of this report.

I doubt there's any chance that Iran will ever be able to compete historically with the vast amount of state sponsored (and drug funded) terrorism that America has supported to install puppet leaders in various countries over the decades.

Isn't it funny how it's an acceptable enough practise for the U.S. government to dabble in, but when another country sponsors terrorism against U.S. interests it's suddenly an unacceptable crime.

Would you be so kind as to point out a single case of US sponsored terrorism that is comparable to the sponsorship taking place by Iran? Supporting pro-Western/anti-USSR elements in the context of the Cold War, such as support of Pinochet in Chile, Bin Laden in Afghanistan, etc. does NOT count as sponsorship of terrorism given the context of the time. US has done some hyenous things in the past, but I don't recall them ever sponsoring indiscriminate murder of civilians.

US is attempting to stabilize the Middle East by pouring billions into rebuilding Iraq. Iran is doing everything they can to destabilize the situation to avoid a democratic neighbor, which would result in significant political shifts inside Iran with power beginning to decentralize. With all due respect, drawing parallel and pulling the hypocrisy card seems a bit idiotic given the circumstances.

Explain. Having looked this up and insofar as I am aware, US supported activity against Sandinista, who took power in a revolt from Somoza in 1979, established a dictatorship and began nationalizing the industry driving away foreign investment (economically sounds a bit like Chile and Allende... although not sure how far this analogy holds given that Allende came to power through pseudo-democratic means rather than a brutal revolt). And it seems to have worked as, in 1990 there were elections that were accepted as democratic by international observers (Source: U.S. Dept. of State)

Or are you referring to something else?

Much of the increase was in Iraq where extremists used chemical weapons and suicide bombers to target crowds.

Does anybody know what chemical weapons have been used?
