— No, we really mean it this time. One Tree Hill returns tonight, May 2, with a brand new episode, entitled "You Call It Madness, But I Call It Love." It's the night of the prom - what will happen to Peyton, held hostage in her own home by stalker Derek (Matt Barr)?
To refresh your memory, here's The CW's description, though it's still the same as it was in March when we first brought it to you:
"It will be an unforgettable Prom at Tree Hill High when Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) discovers who was in the hallway when Keith (Craig Sheffer, who does not appear in the episode) was killed. Meanwhile, Peyton's (Hilarie Burton) decision to skip Prom leads to dire consequences. Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Galoetti) vow to be romantic teenagers at Prom, while Dan (Paul Johansson) tries to win Karen's (Moira Kelly) affections, as the witness to his murder closes in."
While she's not giving anything much away about the plot, Hilarie Burton, who plays Peyton, says that she's really gotten strong from her workouts ("like Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2 strong!") and that "Derek might not know what he's in for!" As well, she let slip that Matt Barr will be returning for "more than one" episode after this. (There are only two, as far as I know.)
It's pretty clear from the upcoming episode descriptions that Peyton does indeed escape the clutches of Derek safely, as during next week's "It Gets the Worst at Night" Peyton and Lucas reportedly "take their relationship to the next level."
Next week Mouth and Rachel go on a road trip to Honey Grove, Texas, which the other One Tree Hill teens join them on after it takes a bad turn. They crash that town's prom, which Nathan and Haley use as a second chance at their own prom experience.
The Honey Grove school filming is part of the "One Tree Hill Films in Your Hometown" contest, so the extras will be actual high school students (unlike most of the One Tree Hill cast, who are in their twenties.)
We should find out in the next couple of weeks whether One Tree Hill's been renewed for another season (though Michael Ausiello of TV Guide says they're "probably" coming back.) The CW will reveal its fall 2007 schedule on May 17, and the news of cancellations and renewals usually hits the press a day or two beforehand. Presumably we'll also find out if the "five years in the future" plan will go forward as well. Stay tuned!
