Goodbye to the Gilmore Girls

— Well, there's not going to be an eighth season for Gilmore Girls, the CW announced this month.

Ratings dropped this season, but the main reason the show's not going on seems to be that stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel simply aren't interested in continuing.

"I think it's the best decision," Lauren Graham said. "One of the things Alexis and I wished could be different was the schedule, and it really can't be."

"It's just a lot of work - 13, 14 hours door to door," Graham said earlier this winter. "Getting the language perfect requires a number of takes that you might not have on another show. I've missed weddings, I've missed babies being born. I'm not complaining, because of what it has brought me, but I would be ready for a different balance."

I don't know, sounded like she was complaining to me. But after seven years, I can't really blame her. And the show really hasn't been the same since Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino left at the end of last season. I myself stopped watching the show for a while earlier this season, because I couldn't stand the direction they took it. (Mostly I just can't stand Christopher.)

Supposedly they planned next week's season finale to serve as a series finale, as this has been in the air for some time now. The CW and Warner Brothers promised in a statement that Gilmore Girls will get "the send-off it deserves." But will they be able to wrap it up to the satisfaction of the fans?

With only two episodes to go, Luke and Lorelai still not back together, and both Rory's graduation and a proposal by Logan set to happen tonight, I can't see how they're going to do it. I'll certainly be tuning in to see, though. How about you?
