— The TV season is almost through, and the finales of various series have inflated (or deflated) their typical value on our BuddyTV Fan Popularity Rankings. For reality series especially, the increase in on line interest as finales approach is steep. So much so that, as you can see in our FPRs below, American Idol has stumbled into fourth place, despite being the most powerful show in the universe. The shows ahead of it on our rankings aren't really more popular, but on line interest gains momentum during the finale week. Below are the rankings, followed by some commentary.
Lost keeps riding the ginormous creative wave it's been on for these recent batch of episodes. Fans couldn't be happier or more intrigued by the recent direction of the show. America's Next Top Model has been a monster on BuddyTV, likely thanks to our exclusive interviews with the models. Its recent season finale didn't hurt, either.
The Bachelor gets the number three spot as its season winds down. The Bachelor keeps exceeding expectations, proving that the reality veteran still has life. American Idol take a surprising tumble to the clean-up spot, and there's no easy reason why. Look for this to change next week, as the season finale comes to FOX.
Dancing with the Stars has its best ever final three pairs remaining, and fans are eating it up. The highly anticipated final showdowns hit the air Monday and Tuesday. Pussycat Dolls: The Search for the Next Doll keeps on making the list, despite being off the air for some time. It's a confusing thing that you can only tack up to the popular profile pages on BuddyTV.
Grey's Anatomy has been mildly disappointing fans this season, and their ranking reflects that. When Grey's is at its best, the show will be in our top 3. Jack Bauer and 24 move up the list from its position last week, and you chalk that up to a solid episode. With the season finale coming tomorrow, we'll see if the events spark any sort of on line debate.
The Amazing Race makes the list off of the residual season finale effect, likely fans reading and listening to our interviews with the teams. Prison Break, remarkably, stays popular during its summer break. Fans love their Prison Break, even when there is no news or new episodes.
